A to Z of Little Life Wins: D is for Deals

9.24.2013
am i the only one who just won't pay full price for anything anymore?  there is just nothing i love more than getting a good deal.  half off, buy one get one free, finding your size in the clearance section, too many groupons to count.  all of those deals where you pay half or less of the purchase price make me dance with joy.  even though i know it's all marketing schemes, i still feel an overwhelming sense of accomplishment.  like i just won something.  as if somehow paying a discounted price makes me better than everyone who paid full price.  it does.  i don't know how, but it does.

and i actually love getting any kind of deal.  i do a lot of online shopping, and before i purchase anything i search for promo codes online.  every store has them.  i don't care if it's 10% off (which only covers tax in chicago) or free shipping.  it's something.  it's such a fun rush to find a coupon code for your purchase.

the trick, though, is finding the coupon code.  not having it sent to you.  i have signed up for more e-mail lists than i care to admit.  and they are constantly bombarding you with deals and sales to entice you to check out the new merchandise.  this was my downfall.  every single e-mail from express or victoria's secret sucked me in.  do not sign up for these e-mails (or send them to a spam e-mail account.)  if you already are, unsubscribe!  i had to, desperately.  now i only shop when i remember i want or need something.  that's when i go searching for the code.  like a treasure hunt for adults.  adults addicted to online shopping.

as far as sales, you know my go-to is target.  there is always. always. something in the clearance or sales sections that i want.  clothes go on sale so fast, i never pay full price there for anything.  and for coupon hunting, i usually have the best luck with a site called retail me not.  i'm far too lazy to cut coupons in a mailer to use in store.  but online codes are too good to pass up.

i may or may not be on kohls.com as we speak...

where do you find the best sales?  and where do you hunt for those coupon codes?!

  1. I was just sucked in by the 30% off all J Crew Factory items which were already on sale. Kohl's is always great! And I definitely have some major unsubscribing to do- shopping for baby and bridal showers always ends up with so much spam from shopping off registries.

  4. RetailMeNot has an app that I swear by! I always check to see what deal is at the store I am in. And you're not alone, it makes me feel better to get things on sale.

I am also guilty of buying something, then buying it again if I can get a better deal on it. Then I return the higher priced item and get the difference back. Especially around Christmas time!

  5. I am the same way, I HATE paying full price for something! And I'm guilty of having a spam email address to send the sale info to. But I have cut back, and I completely cut out Groupon!

  6. Do you have a Catos nearby? I love it for finding work clothes. They always have stuff on clearance that are still in the current season. I may or may not (yeah I will) be stopping by one tomorrow when I make a work trip.

  8. full price? ain't nobody got time fo' dat!

i refuse to buy anything full price (unless they're brand new boots that i must have NOW) because i know that somewhere, out there, there's a sale. or the outlets.

outlets are the best! it's why i love shopping in the states because you folks have it down. the "outlets" here in canada suck bag because their prices are too expensive for outlets!

  9. I have some kind of genetic disorder that makes it impossible for me to pay full price for anything. I love, love outlets, Marshalls, and thrifting. The unfortunate problem is that I also cannot pass up a sale. I mean, when I see a great deal, I think "How can I afford NOT to buy it?" lol :P

  13. Kohls always has amazing deals...and I love having a Kohls charge because then I almost always have an additional percentage off of everything that is already on sale. And Kohl's cash...gets me every time.

  15. I don't really shop, but when I do, I definitely hit up the clearance and sale racks. If something is full price, it has to be under $25 or I probably won't consider it. My favorite place to shop for name brands and just a big selection of clothes is Goodwill.

  17. Heck yea- I love sales! Get the Retail me Not app on your phone stat so a salesclerk can just scan that. I feel like I get really good deals at Loft too (if that's your style) :).

  18. Target's clearance clothes racks are seriously a problem. I can't leave without buying something off of it!

  19. I used to be seriously addicted to getting a deal. I still am but now I'm smarter about it. If it's on sale and I'm only saving $0.50 (grocery store), I'll pass. That's not a deal to me. I use retailmenot.com to get my online codes. I ordered 2 large pizzas for the price of one last week.

  20. Not sure if you use it or not, but Cart Wheel is a Target app for your phone and they post extra % off on sooo many things! My BF found some shirts on clearance for $4.97, then we got the 10% off on top of that! WIN! They often have lots of ladies clothing on Cart Wheel.
