5 Things I Am Not Above

there's very, very few things that i think i'm too good for.  going to 18 and over clubs is one that comes to mind.  but generally i'm just not that type of person who's too good to wear anything but designer or eat anywhere that doesn't have glass and real silverware.  and it's not that i have low standards.  i simply like to think of it as being self-aware and down to earth.  i can dine some place with paper napkins, shop the clearance areas at target, buy 24 packs of miller lite when they're on sale, dance on tables, do keg stands, cheer for losers the cubbies and hawkeyes.  i'm not above any of that.

and you know what else?  i'm not even above the things people 'usually' say they're too good for.  so here's a few more things i'm just not above, even if you think you are:

pbr tallboys.  heck yes i drink pbr in a can.  and old style.  i am never too good for anything in a tallboy, especially when it's $2.  and to be honest, if you're in wrigleyville on cubbie game day and you're not drinking old style, i'm totally judging you.

taco bell.*  taco bell said it best themselves.

shows for teenagers.  i'm (almost) 10 years too old for shows for teenagers.  i care 0%.  if a show is about high school, i'm probably watching it.  in fairness, the actors are probably too old to be playing high schoolers anyway, so that makes it fine.  vampire diaries, teen mom, awkward, pretty little liars.  yep, i watch them.

dressing up my dog.  i'm not saying she likes it, but she likes the attention she gets when it happens.  a dog named hawkeye with an iowa hawkeyes collar, leash and jersey?  home girl is a tailgate hit and she loves every minute of it.  does that make me one of those crazy dog ladies?  psssh talk to me when hawkeye's stroller arrives.

she's an elf.  ignore her demon eyes.

ugly knock off uggs.  of course they're horrid looking, i'm well aware.  but i gotta walk a mile to work in the snow in chicago so at least my feet are snuggly warm.  definitely not going to pay for real uggs, but knock off payless uggs, i'm all over.  i don't envy you in your 4 inch heeled boots, sister.  so judge away.  (and at least i don't wear them with mini-skirts, like my bff who moved to california but has always been too obsessed with her baby blue uggs to give them up.)

everyone at iowa has bar crawls for their birthdays.  it always involves making t-shirts.  one of mine said "we are not above that" and then i proceeded to make everyone go to the dive-iest bars in iowa city, probably a few that even the most experienced seniors have never heard of.  but hey, irish car bombs were like 50 cents.  so the next time someone questions your actions and not so silently judges you, just tell them "i am not above that" and make them feel guilty and a little silly for being so uppity.  you're having more fun than them anyway.

*if you're wondering why taco bell doesn't just sponsor my blog or my dog already... well, i am too.

  1. Haha! I like this list a lot. I am def not above watching the CW, wishing the OC was in it's 10th season right now, and eating whole candy bars in one sitting every once in a while.

  2. I'm with ya on all of these! well, except I don't have a dog to dress up and I highly doubt Ralph the cat would allow me to throw a sweater on him, ha!

  3. Right on girl! Everyone needs to stop and chiggity check themselves every once in awhile!

  4. I pretty much agree with all of this. Knock off uggs party of two? And tell me more about this t-shirt bar crawl thing. Can it be done in Nebraska too?

  5. Well, you already know that I'm gonna ditto all this. Duh.

  7. I hate when people are uppity. I'm like you aren't superior, and yeah.. I like what I like.. So what?? I like shows about high school, because they are so entertaining. Throwbacks? The OC and One Tree Hill! I want my dogs to wear a Halloween costume but they are like 40 and 65 lbs and my husband won't let me haha

  11. I love Taco Hell. It helps out my intestines. Keeps shit flowing. Literally. And Pretty Little Liars is my shit. You and I both know that. But PBR is fucking N-A-S-T-Y!!!!!!

  12. ABC Family has some of my favorite shows. I like to watch that or the CW while eating Taco Bell and drinking a PBR :)

  13. haha I am not above any of those either....except PBR and that's only because I'm just not a fan of beer. I have wondered why taco bell hasn't started sponsoring you. Clearly they don't know how much free advertising you give them. I think I like the teen shows more than the girls do.

  16. I love Taco Bell! And Walter has his own Blues jersey, so of course he gets dressed up. He also has a Halloween costume and a pumpkin shirt. :)

  17. I need to do a post like this, I love it.

Also, I wanted to get a dog stroller and MFD used THAT as his line that must not be crossed. Seriously?

  18. You are above Natty Lite tall boys though right?! If I had a dog, I would totally dress him/ her up too. Right now, I dress my cats up- it's not the same :)

  19. YES x Five. I am so not above ANY of these...though I prefer NOT to drink PBR but it happens. Oh, and if I had a dog I would so dress it up...all the time. So much goodness in this post.

  20. I will watch Awkward and Pretty Little Liars until they stop making new episodes. Awkward is probably one of the funniest scripted "teen" shows I've ever seen!

  21. Be still my heart-the holidays just aren't the holidays if we aren't doing cheap shots in some dive bar in Iowa. And I just got some Hunter boots to wear in snow and I am obsessed with them!

    ReplyDelete
  22. Haha I am right there on all of these with you! Except for the PBR I can't do beer, just vodka. :)

  23. I am on the same page with every single one of these things. P.S. What is Hawkeye being for Halloween?? I am a little irritated by the lack of dog costumes on the market this year!

  24. Shows for teenagers -- I'm right there with you!

  25. Ha PBR tallboys! I do love myself a good tallboy (although I have to admit I'm kind of a beer snob). BUT I am SO not above dressing up my pet! Or shows for teens. We've got to be entertained somehow :)

  26. PBR tallboys?!? We are soulmates, you and I.

  27. psh, Taco Bell is the best. I don't care who you are. and dive bar crawl? Eff yes. I wanna go!

  28. I guess I need to start following Tbell on twitter b/c that made my friggin life. Get off your high horse and have those bell grande nachos, fool.

  29. no one is above Taco Bell. I'm not above watching teen shows either.. I love them (but I'm also younger than you, so I don't think it's super weird for me.. even tho my mom disagrees)

  34. Love this post!! I love teen movies, teen tv shows, and young adult books. I'll always been 17 at heart. I think.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Haha I like this! I do love Taco Bell but my digestive system does not. I love high school shows too and like the reader above young adult books!

    ReplyDelete
  36. the tv shows and dressing up your dog i can relate too. but i'm not a beer drinker by any means and taco bell and i are NOT friends. also, sale shopping is the best and i personally think it just means your a mature adult who knows how to shop well and save money while still getting great pieces. ;)

  37. I had to laugh about the PBR we aren't above the PBR either as a matter of fact we have a particular term of endearment for PBR drinking. We call it "scumbaggin". So if I come out of the beer cave with a case of PBR on the cheap my man says something like, "So we're scumbaggin' it tonight? I can dig it". Glad I'm not the only one!

    1. Hahaha!! That is the perfect term for it, truly. I might start using that!
