Annoyed: Get Out of the Way

in thinking about those little things that just grate my nerves each day, i've realized that most of my little daily annoyances on the top of my list relate to people just being in the way.  and especially the self-entitled manner in which they go about it - it's just completely inconsiderate to the rest of humanity who isn't so stupid.  here's where i notice it the most:

not moving over on the highway when someone is coming up fast behind you in the left lane (which you probably shouldn't have gotten into in the first place, let's be honest.)  did you not have to take driver's ed?

walking next to people on the sidewalk, middle of the sidewalk, and not moving to the side or stepping behind your friend when someone is trying to pass you.  parents with strollers reign supreme in this category, as they are the ones most likely to get huffy when you attempt to pass or ask them to move.  i get it, you think you and your giant stroller rule the world.  buuut you don't.  and i'm not walking in the street because you don't know how to maneuver your cadillac of a kid pusher.

trying to get on when other people need to unload first.  trains, buses, elevators.  trust me, wait for all those other people to get off before you get on and it'll make everyone's life easier.  i promise the doors won't close and leave you stranded, as there are 20 other people patiently waiting and they all seem to make it on just fine.  you don't need to be first.

leaving shopping carts anywhere but the cart corrals.  particularly when they take up parking spaces.  not only are you too lazy to take it back to the store, but you're even too lazy to take it to a cart corral?  you just spent how long pushing it around the store, and now you can't push it 20 more feet?  you've got to be kidding me.

holding a conversation in the places people most need to use.  in front of a doorway.  at the top of an escalator.  in front of the bathroom sinks.  in front of the counter where i need to pick up my coffee and how dare you add one more annoyance to my day before i've had my caffeine, i am not responsible for what happens to you.  and when people bump into you accidentally (or maybe on purpose if their name is stephanie), you give them the stink eye?!  you're the one in way pal.

yes i probably am in a hurry and recognize it more from being in a fast paced city.  and while your standing in the way isn't going to make me late or make a large difference in my day, it's still rude.  i could go down the street flicking off every person i pass and no, it probably wouldn't affect their day, but i don't do it because most people would consider it pretty unacceptable.  and that's exactly how i view getting in someone's way.  it may not seem like a big deal, but it's pretty inappropriate and it really isn't all that hard to just slide a few feet in another direction.

learn to have some respect for the other people you share your space with, and move over.

  1. I'm not gonna lie -- everytime I hear someone on a personal call in the bathroom, I want to make tons of inappropriate noises. Loudly.

Great list. I agree with so many.

  2. If I ever listed the things that annoy me on a daily basis, y'all would probably think I was a crazy biatch. But now that I think about it, you're totally right about a LOT of them having to do with things/people being in the way. That being said, people trying to get in an elevator before the people already on it have a chance to exit is the WORST and it happens practically every time I use the ones in the school library!

    1. I told you, he and I would would be best buddies and we'd live in the most impeccably clean house! You might have to be banned from it though to work.

  6. The grocery cart thing has been driving me crazy lately! Seriously, can you not take a few moments of your time to put your cart away?? Those things can get loose and damage your car. It especially makes me mad when you go to pull into an open spot and there is a cart there! For about 2 weeks straight it was my mission to put every cart away.

  8. OMG YES! When I was in China I wanted to just seriously ram people with things because they walked so freaking slow even when I don't have somewhere to be I don't get why people can't get the hell out of the way!

  9. People who are walking in a crowd and then stop dead in front of you to look at or talk about something drive me insane. It's like pulling your car over, get out of the walkway before you stop to do whatever you think you need to do that's not walking.

  11. Bahaha the owl! Hilarious. Oh you know I am so the same way. Kevin always seems to be getting in my way. Drives me nuts. Although it might be because we are two people in a small condo but I'm still gonna blame him.

  12. PERFECT- now people just need to follow it!!! The worst is tourists (in DC and NYC), like, not everyone is on vaca and people got to get to work!

  13. This sends me to the brink of insanity daily.

    1. Conversing at the top of the steps where people rush down to make their trains. Why the F would you hold a conversation at the top of steps?
    2. People trying to bust in the elevator before I can get out. STEP BACK!
    3. People who do not pay attention to where they are on the sidewalk in regards to where other people are and are trying to go. MOVE!

  14. Ugh. When I worked in DC I hated taking public transportation because of tourists. They move so slowly. All. The. Time. Plus they're always having conversations in the middle of escalators while blocking everyone in. GRRR.

  15. I LOVE EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS POST. Seriously. You said exactly everything that I always feel, especially because I am a pretty fast walker, but am not nearly eloquent enough to say on my own. Preach it, sister.

  16. all this bullshit happens DAILY in my city; like EVERYWHERE YOU GO. the carts strewn all over the parking lot drives me bananas too. there are even some assholes who go above and beyond their assholery and just push the cart away from the car randomly once they're done. this one guy at walmart did that and it was heading full speed towards this other car near me so i ran over to stop it otherwise it would have left a huge dent/paint chip and i looked over screamed out: ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME?! WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU?! and i didn't give a shit if there were kids around because that was a major douchebag move and kids oughta know what a douchebag move is!!

  17. Haha you are too funny. I am totally the one that wants to yell at someone in front of me for walking too slow! I just can't take it lol

  18. oh my gosh i am the exact same way. i just don't like when people are keeping me from getting to where i need to be or what i need to do. i'm a pretty patient person, but i file that kind of stuff under people simply being inconsiderate, which i don't appreciate.

  20. Somebody JUST did this to me (holding a conversation in front of a doorway) as I was walking out for lunch. I was so aggravated! Don't people notice their surroundings?! And I agree with the rest of these too.

  22. I hate it when people in the grocery store think they're the only ones there. GET OUT OF MY WAY!

  23. I'm that asshole in my group of friends who will happily interrupt a lively conversation to say, "Hey, maybe we should move out of the walk/door way and not block all the people?" I feel like I'm doing a service to humanity, so it balances out.

  24. I'm ALWAYS in a hurry and there are ALWAYS people in my way! Since I drive so much as part of my job, my road rage is crazy...lol. good thing i mostly travel alone!

  25. OR the people who take up an entire aisle in a store. like i already do not want to be in this aisle with you and i'm mildly panicking but then this makes it worse because all of the sudden i'm trapped and i can't get the shit i need.
