in thinking about those little things that just grate my nerves each day, i've realized that most of my little daily annoyances on the top of my list relate to people just being in the way. and especially the self-entitled manner in which they go about it - it's just completely inconsiderate to the rest of humanity who isn't so stupid. here's where i notice it the most:
not moving over on the highway when someone is coming up fast behind you in the left lane (which you probably shouldn't have gotten into in the first place, let's be honest.) did you not have to take driver's ed?
walking next to people on the sidewalk, middle of the sidewalk, and not moving to the side or stepping behind your friend when someone is trying to pass you. parents with strollers reign supreme in this category, as they are the ones most likely to get huffy when you attempt to pass or ask them to move. i get it, you think you and your giant stroller rule the world. buuut you don't. and i'm not walking in the street because you don't know how to maneuver your cadillac of a kid pusher.
trying to get on when other people need to unload first. trains, buses, elevators. trust me, wait for all those other people to get off before you get on and it'll make everyone's life easier. i promise the doors won't close and leave you stranded, as there are 20 other people patiently waiting and they all seem to make it on just fine. you don't need to be first.
leaving shopping carts anywhere but the cart corrals. particularly when they take up parking spaces. not only are you too lazy to take it back to the store, but you're even too lazy to take it to a cart corral? you just spent how long pushing it around the store, and now you can't push it 20 more feet? you've got to be kidding me.
holding a conversation in the places people most need to use. in front of a doorway. at the top of an escalator. in front of the bathroom sinks. in front of the counter where i need to pick up my coffee and how dare you add one more annoyance to my day before i've had my caffeine, i am not responsible for what happens to you. and when people bump into you accidentally (or maybe on purpose if their name is stephanie), you give them the stink eye?! you're the one in way pal.
yes i probably am in a hurry and recognize it more from being in a fast paced city. and while your standing in the way isn't going to make me late or make a large difference in my day, it's still rude. i could go down the street flicking off every person i pass and no, it probably wouldn't affect their day, but i don't do it because most people would consider it pretty unacceptable. and that's exactly how i view getting in someone's way. it may not seem like a big deal, but it's pretty inappropriate and it really isn't all that hard to just slide a few feet in another direction.
