Just Don't Bother: Let's All Stay In!

i'll be honest, i'm going out this weekend.  there's a halloween party in wrigleyville.  i adore halloween, it's my favorite holiday plus tara is in town to debut our matching kick ass pinata costumes.

but sometimes, you just want to avoid people.  i completely understand that and even more completely support and encourage it.  if you work a long week and your co-workers are particularly inept, your husband/kids are driving you up a wall, you're just too tired to get all dressed up for a night on the town - those are the times when you just spend the weekend in the cocoon that is your home and hope you deal with no one but the occasional pizza delivery guy.  those personality tests say i'm an extrovert but even i need one weekend a month to do nothing and see no one.

besides the sleep you need to catch up on, what should you do to entertain yourself?

netflix: always with the netflix, right?  i've been watching the new 90210, which is on netflix in its entirely now.  next up on my queue is arrow, which i'd actually never even heard of until netflix put it on my 'recommended for you' list.  thanks guys.  we've developed a real relationship, ya know?  i appreciate it, you make me feel so loved for $8 a month.  i'm also looking at once upon a time, which i haven't seen either, and the expendables 2 as far as movies.  any other recommendations?  yes i know, i know, one tree hill. obviously one day i'll get to it, i swear.

cooking: try your hand at cocktail cupcakes. booze and dessert and no one demanding you share it.  want to know how to make just one or two cupcakes instead of 18+?  just ask, i'll fill you in.  less mess and really no reason to share.

apps: staying in and avoiding human contact doesn't have to mean being totally unproductive.  i've been playing around with a new app (new to me) called learnvest.  according to my 101 list and my mother, i need to learn to budget, and she read somewhere about this app (which you can also just edit online, i do both.)  you sync all your accounts and it monitors your spending, and you categorize your payments into little folders to see where your money goes.  why hello there shopping and restaurants and bars categories.  almost didn't see you there with your verging on quadruple digit numbers.  i tried mint before, for some reason that didn't stick.  somehow learnvest seems easier to navigate, at least for me.  i liked the way it's organized and it pops up to categorize a spending charge as soon as i log in (if it didn't do it automatically, some it knows like groceries.)  plus you can make goals, budgets, talk to someone for free about growing your money.  it's nice.  oh and free, of course.

reading: apparently people do this regularly, but for me, those days are few and far between now.  but i'm working on it.  for some reason i'm jumping on to this whole trilogy bandwagon and have bookmarked the divergent series and the matched series.  i like to read things before the become movies.  i guess because i like being ultimately disappointed in the movies?  except harry potter, those were all awesome.  back to the books - have you read either series?  have you liked them?

shopping: online, of course, can't risk going out and seeing people.  so shop to your heart's content from the comfort of your couch in your pjs.  and then show me your purchases so i can live vicariously through you while i pay off the last bit of debt (besides student loans) by the end of this month.  which means nothing on the credit card - waaah.  i want this:

i don't need it, by any means, but it's so pretty.  i also want drawer organizers, a handheld mini vacuum, lots of things from victoria's secret, and muji drawers so i can organize my makeup like steph even though i need none of these things and everything is organized just fine right now.  i just like to shop, i like new stuff.  oh and i found out pajama jeans now makes them in black and in a skinny, i'm probably going to break the spending freeze for those.  priorities.

what do you do when you stay in for the weekend?

  3. My former party girl hates the fact that I'm a total homebody now. Whenever I get invites to go out, I'm like: "sooooo....what time does it start? 10pm? sorry, I'm already asleep by then". Lame, right?

but when I'm on my own, it's WONDERFUL. I get to do NOTHING all day like sit there and stare at the wall or NOT TALK or just surf and blog or WATCH TV without someone saying "can I watch tree house? why is that man doing that? what is she doing? what is that? oh, mommy, can we get a dog like that? can you buy me that toy? ARRRRRGGGHHHHHH!! LOL while I love it when Kayla talks up a storm, sometimes a bitch needs a break, know what I mean?

and with a 5yr old kid, it's RARE that I get time all by myself without someone asking me 437 questions a day. For real, I read somewhere that kids ask ON AVERAGE 437 questions a day and I don't doubt that.

and the fact that I don't have to wear pants. or a bra. Heaven.

Love this post. have fun at your party!

  4. I skipped work today because I'm leaving for Louisville later. You would have thought I'd worn a million dollars the way I've acted about not having to leave the house until 2. I need to catch up on my Netflix. I am seriously behind.

  5. FINALLY!!!!!!!!!! I CANNOT wait to see you in your costume!! In fact I better get a texted pic of that!!!

I go through phases of reading. Reading crap for work sometimes wears me out. I am reading the book Elizabeth Smart put out about her kidnapping - makes my stomach churn!

    That dress - I WANT!!!!!!!!!!!!

My weekends consist of prepping for Mav - Does it make me a bad Mom that I am already looking forward to a night out with the girls after he is here? Not that I won't want to spend time with my love bug but Momma needs to let loose!!!

    XoXo

  6. When I lived in STL, I would have one weekend night where I stayed in and just indulged--I would practice making a super fancy (more than 4 ingredients) dinner, read and then watch Netflix. And the next night I would go out.

  7. I'm definitely an introvert, so I truly enjoy my weekends at home doing nothing with my dog and husband. I've always been a homebody, but that's not to say I don't also love letting loose and being on other weekends...I need a good balance of both!

  8. Agreed! Sometimes I want some "me" time at home. Online shopping, TV, reading blogs and a glass of wine can be just as fun ;-) Happy Friday chick!

  9. You forgot napping! I always grab a nap if I can get one on a stay in weekend, usually while I'm in the middle of reading a book. :)

I've never heard of Divergent or Matched before but I've now added them to my list to check out.

  10. Sometimes Netflix in your underwear is just the perfect way to spend the weekend. Too funny you said One Tree Hill! I just finished the first season again and loveeeeee it. It's like the halfway point between Seventh Heaven (way too goody two shoes) and Laguna Beach (rich hoes going to Cabo and making out with randoms). It's that happy middle.

  15. I am SUCH a homebody that I need to push myself to go out and do things! I have rekindled my love affair with Netflix. I watched all of New Girl and now I am watching Greys Anatomy. After that? 30 Rock, Parks and Rec...the list never ends! I love Netflix! But I know, I need to work on getting out. Does having people at MY house count as getting out?! Ha!

  16. I'm always all about going on on Wednesday but by the time Friday afternoon rolls around all I want to do is put on sweatpants and binge on Netflix.

  17. You read my mind: One Tree Hill is a must-watch. I even got my brother to watch it on Netflix. And New Girl. I may or may not have finished season 2 in one weekend....

  18. I love a good weekend to stay in and do nothing! Movies are my go to stay in activity. If you have Netflix streaming I would say watch House of Cards- I'm obsessed. Kevin Spacy, corrupt politicians, and the wife's chic outfits. Enjoy your weekend!

  19. I want more muji. I'm always in danger of buying too many organizational items because I love them so much.

I like to read, cook, binge watch TV, clean out drawers, and nap. That's basically my agenda this weekend.

  20. Online shopping, if broke then online window shopping, is the best way for me to entertain myself! And I won't forget a whole lot of food!

  21. I love staying in, it's my favourite past time. I binge read fiercely once I'm into a book I just will not stop reading it until I turn the last page. It's a problem (that I love), but then sometimes I go weeks without picking up a book.

  22. I completely agree! I love going out, but I absolutely need my time at home! I love to relax and get things done around the house!

  24. I love alone time, soo much. I planned on being out & about this weekend but I got sick so it turned into a lot of netflix, Harry Potter movie watching, and pinterest recipe cooking!

  26. I want that dress too! So pretty. I had a date with my couch and dvr all weekend. I love them so much and they felt neglected. We had a great time.

  27. Fridays are my "leave me the F alone" nights because I'm just dead from the week! Usually I catch up on tv and stuff. These are all idea activities for spending time alone :-) As far as books, I didn't like the Matched series, and I haven't done Divergent. But I did dig the Hunger Games. Two other series I like (but there are only 2 books out in each series...which is killing me!) The Lunar Chronicles series (Cinder and Scarlet) and The Mara Dyer series. :-) You can look me up on GoodReads.com if you want more book ideas!
