Things I Actually Feel Guilty About

i've confessed some stuff here on the blog before, but it's been things i really don't mind doing.  does it count as a confession if i'm more like 'eh, yeah i do this, what of it?!'  so today you get my real confessions.  at least, the things i do that i actually feel really guilty about.

-i quickly change the channel when aspca commercials come on (who doesn't?) and not only that, if i see what i already know is or can tell is going to be a sad pin on pinterest about animal abuse, animal cruelty, or a just plain sob story about something sweet and heroic a dog did, i skip past it as fast as possible.  same goes for articles, videos, news stories, anything that i know is going to make me cry.  because they all make me cry.  i know i should be supportive and if i could throw all my dollars at saving animals, i would.  but i can't watch it or read about it.  i already know it's going on and i already know it breaks my heart that i can't save them all.  sitting through more is just torture, but i still feel guilty when i try to get it off my screen as fast as possible.

-i sometimes skip reading blog posts.  sometimes i forget to read on fridays so when i come back to my bloglovin on monday morning, it's on major overload.  i have a tendency to hit 'mark all as read.'  i feel bad that i can't read everything i would want to, but i just don't have the time and i don't like the stress.

-occasionally, 'i just don't have the time' means 'i've been scrolling through pinterest for an hour.'

-i rarely waste money on gossip magazines, but if there's a teen mom on the cover, i'll generally buy it.  (unless i have time to read it in the aisle of walgreens on my lunch break, of course.)  i'm almost 30 so yes, i feel guilty caring about and encouraging terrible teen mom updates because let me assure you, they are never ever good.

-i feel guilty wasting money on a smartphone.  i text, i take photos occasionally, i check email.  i use the chase app and play evil apples.  oh and i set my alarm.  clearly, i do not need a smartphone.  even more so due to the fact that if it's after 5:30 on a weeknight, good luck getting my attention on it, it's in the charger in another room.  i never check it.

-i pin awesome recipes and love saving money, but i would rather eat out or order in any day of the week.  grocery shopping and cooking will just never be my thing.

-my other money pit is candles.  i feel the guilt pangs every time i buy (yet another) new one.  i don't know why i can't stop.  damn you bath and body works.  damn you.

-i overuse the mute button on twitter.  oh wait, i don't actually feel guilty about that.

well that was cathartic.  maybe i can let go of the guilt now.  let me go mark everything as read on bloglovin and i'll report back.

  1. I feel you on the dog and animal stories/commercials. I skip them fast too because I KNOW I will tear up in a heartbeat. I'm not trying to cry my eyes out every single day.

  2. Ahaha I am guilty of pinning awesome recipes and then not making them. I loooove cooking but I just lack the motivation to actually do it ;( ...I occasionally skip reading blog posts as well...or just let allllll of them pile up and then it becomes even MORE daunting.

  3. HAHA this is so funny! My entire pinterest account is full of wonderful recipes I never have, and probably never will cook! :) I don't read blog posts when I'm too lazy to comment. You're not alone!

  4. I couldn't agree more... On all counts. As if there was any doubt.

    1. Somehow I keep convincing myself that I'll make everything one day!

  6. Hitting the "mark all as read" button on Bloglovin is necessary sometimes and feels like a weight lifted off my shoulders.

    1. It definitely does. I just feel guilty when I do it because I'm being lazy rather than actually busy!

  7. The dog commercials get me every time. I need to just walk away! I have been trying to stay away from Pinterest because it sucks me into the abyss!

  8. I buy so many candles too. I don't think any of us really NEED a smartphone but we are all want them.

  9. You know what I feel guilty about?? Going grocery shopping and dropping about $150 on my stuff... get home... and order take out for dinner. Because I just don't feel like cooking.

    Is that bad?

  10. I guess I don't see that many animal abuse things, but I feel the same way about any story having to do with kids getting hurt. Our local newspaper has been trying to raise awareness of the issue but it's just so horrible, I can't read it or my stomach is tied in knots for the rest of the day.

I hope you don't really feel guilty about marking blogs as read! I think everyone does it, and no one expects you to comment on every single post. Any time that bloglovin number gets above 50, I get twitchy and start marking the oldest ones as read.

    1. I get to about 130 before I get twitchy. If my real life is busy, I don't mind at all. But when I hit read just because I'd rather be on pinterest, then I feel pretty guilty! And lazy!

  12. None of these make me want to unfriend you or anything. Except your email last night how Hawkeye did not like the Good Morning Song. Sad face :-(

  13. Kathy encouraged me to use the mute button on twitter and I am so much happier without some bitches eating crackers in my life (that I feel bad unfollowing bc they live in Houston and I might see them again). It's amazing. I stopped myself from spending tons of money at Bath & Body Works the other day because the kids running around were so damn annoying I had to leave. So maybe if you went on a Saturday, you would save more money?

  14. i change the channel for the aspca commercials too. they just make me too sad. i want to save all the puppies and kitties. i actually donate $18/month to the aspca to help my guilt a little. it's not a ton but it's one of their suggested amounts that helps them out. and i get out of reading blogs sometimes too. i try to read when i can but there are just SO many!

  15. I'm with you on blog reading AND Pinterest surfing, sometimes I have time to read all the blogs but I still only choose to read my favorites and move on to Pinterest. Do I feel guilty yes, am I going to stop? No, no I'm not.

  16. 'damn you bath & body works'

    preach it sister.
preach it. I have to stop buying candles and &scented waxes. NOW!!

ALSO, i have an addiction to Teen Mom as well, Dave tells me I have a problem and that an almost 25 year old shouldn't be watching MTV.

  17. Cooking is such a downfall of mine, and I feel guilty about it! I love ordering take-out or just going out to eat. Its a huge guilty pleasure of mine haha

  18. I am obsessed with the Teen Moms too...They make me feel much better about my life choices.

  19. I cannot bear the ASPCA commercials or anything remotely like that.

I left my phone at home today. Freedom!

  20. I have a shelf full of candles and still keep buying more. I don't know what my problem is!

    ReplyDelete
  21. I haven't used the mute button on twitter yet, I NEED to. I def skip those aspca commercials too- just too sad.

  22. I truly believe you need a different flavor candle for all occasions, so there is no shame in beigna candle hoarder. ASPCA is also a quick switch for me.

  23. I also think I am wasting money on a smartphone. It's great when I'm out (and there's no wireless) but I could do without and just borrow my husband's. I'd switch to a traditional phone but I'm too lazy to do the legwork ;). And too lazy to cancel cable and just get Netflix or Hulu or something.

  24. I agree - I love grocery shopping and cooking but when I feel like it. Keyword: feel. It's not always the case, there are weeks we'll go by on eggs and cereal and just call it a wrap. Pasta is cheap and flexible but so fattening, lol. I also hit "mark as read" on a lot of ish - I use Feedly it gets ridiculous some days. I will forever not feel guilty about getting a new phone because I love my gadgets and my phone has to be gangster. My HTC makes me freakin' happy and there is a linux phone coming out which I am ON IT! Have a great one now that your conscience is clear Stephanie :P -Iva

  25. Same here. I also waste money on Air Wick Plug ins.

  26. Oh, I totally skip the ASPCA commercials. For a while I felt guilty about blog reading and commenting, but it got to a point where it was taking over so much of my life and I had to just say eff it; I'll read when I can and skip when I feel like it. :) And yes, I refuse to spend money on gossip magazines, but when I am getting my hair done I so look forward to flipping through as many as possible. :)

  27. I cant handle the homeless and abused doggy commercials. I just cant! I want to adopt them and save them all and be the crazy dog lady. I freaking cry every time. I do not cry when they ask for money for homeless children, just the animals. haha.

  28. The grocery store is one of my least favorite places ever. I always spend too much money or I can't find what I need or I forget to pick up something and have to go back... I really just hate the entire experience.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I sometimes mark blog posts as read too. Either I just feel overwhelmed, or am not in the mood to read certain posts. Also, I ALWAYS change those aspca commercials.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I'm guilty of having Bloglovin but never using it... still a GFC girl all the way! But I don't stress myself out of trying to keep up with reading as I don't have the time with my new job, but I'll read what I can and just go with the most recent when I can pick up again ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  31. I've been skipping a LOT more posts lately. I still read a LOT but when you're busy, you have to pick and choose... that's the nature of the blogging beast!

    ReplyDelete
  32. I am the same way about recipes! I am not a good cook (although I can bake!) and would SO much rather not even try, and go eat out instead. :) And I am the exact same way about the ASPCA commercials. I refuse to watch the news because of stories about animals too. My little heart can't take it. Plus I think that my money and volunteering helps more than me watching those stories.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Cooking and grocery shpping is not my thing at all I don't know if it ever will be.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I am totally the same way with ASPCA commercials/pins/posts/etc. I just can't handle them.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I do the same thing with the animal commercials, it is just too upsetting to see those pictures. My husband tries to avoid any and all pet adoption fairs with me as well b/c I'm always sad about all the animals without homes. My confessions is my husband cooks most of the recipes I find and pin on Pinterest...I'm a lucky girl.

  36. CANDLES! Why do they have to be so expensive and only last 3 days!?
