Things I Have Not Accomplished This Summer

we're almost halfway through august and i can't even handle that fact.  i mean, i like it because you know i prefer cold weather, but man, time is flying.  which has made me think about what i've really been doing with my time these past few months.  i didn't actually make a 'summer bucket list' from which to systematically check off my activities.  i don't make them for any season.  if i do seasonal things, great, if not, oh well.  particularly for the summertime, since i don't really enjoy summer weather.  so i realized that this summer i:

haven't been to the pool.  there's an outdoor pool in my apartment building... i'm not sure what excuse i have for not going to it.  other than 'laying out' bores me to tears - i can never relax and i always feel like there's better ways to spend my time.

haven't been to the beach.  not super surprising, because i don't actually like the sand, or dirty lake michigan, or crowds, or being hot.

haven't had a frappuccino.  i like my coffee unsweetened and black like my soul.

haven't been to a beer garden or outdoor eating.  bugs and heat, i guess.  i like beer gardens in the fall, when the bugs start to die.  otherwise, i'll stay inside where it's clean and air-conditioned.

haven't gone on vacation.  haven't had the time.  at least i'll be going to nashville for my birthday in november, but that's all i have planned.  i also hate flying, so that often keeps me in chicago.

haven't gone to a baseball game.  i've gone to the bar next to the baseball game, does that count?

haven't gone stargazing.  since i took astronomy my freshman year of college.  can you even see stars in chicago?

haven't been to a water park.  since 2001.

haven't been to the taste of chicago.  since 2006.

haven't been camping.  since... never.

i have, however, gone to a florida georgia line concert, seen my friends' bands at approximately 74 street fests, played beer pong and flip cup, closed down a 4 a.m. bar, taken my dog for ice cream, had a sharknado 2 party, set off fireworks, marathon watched crappy movies on netflix starring wwe wrestlers, went to a nascar race and sat in pit row, (that list reads preeeeety redneck for someone who lives in chicago...) so it's not like i've been bored.  i just don't like all those 'normal' summer plans.  but at least i'm that much closer to my snow.

  1. I've never been camping, and I haven't hit up a pool (although let's be real, I never do). I have been to the beach, though! I came back still pale.

  2. I haven't done any of these things either. I hate sweating. It's fucking gross. And mosquitoes. And being hot. Yeah, summer isn't my jam. But I've been to a bonfire!

  3. I think going to the bar next door counts - have you been to Nashville before? I'm dying to go!

  5. We have a pool..haven't been to it. I am 40 mins. away from the "Jersey Shore," haven't been there all summer and camping, it's been a good 10 years. We are in the same boat! Which I haven't done yet this summer, either.

  6. I've only been to the pool once this summer and it was boring. I don't/can't swim, and I get SO bored just laying there. Honestly, I haven't done most of the things you haven't done either. Minus a few exciting events, this summer has been a bit boring but overall not too bad.

  8. I haven't done any of those things either, and I'm cool with that. Michael Phelps pees in pools anyway http://qz.com/185968/pool-pee-isnt-just-gross-its-also-harming-swimmers/ . I want to go to a Sharknado 2 party :). But I didn't see Sharknado yet x).

  10. i feel like i haven't done a lot of summery things either oops. i actually love going to the pool but i've either been too busy or the weather has just been too crappy!

  11. i don't do pools either but i sure do love lying in the shade reading a book or napping!

camping - that was fun when i was younger but now? i'm way too old to be tenting it. i will go camping but only if i can retire in a fully equipped cabin at the end of the night so i don't have to deal with bugs or hoofing it to the outhouse to take a piss at night because 1) ain't nobody got time fo' dat and 2) um, deranged killers lurking in the woods? I'VE SEEN ALL THE HORROR MOVIES SO I KNOW WHAT'S UP.

  12. I haven't done most of those things either except the beach and vacation. I have only gone to the beach a few times though because I get bored so the one by my house is plenty.

  13. Omg, I know how that feels. Lying by the poolside doing "nothing" would bore me to tears...I have to have something to do... anything! Read a book or just talk or something. Also, I'm not a summer person at all, so beaches and pools only excite me when the weather is a bit cooler.

    1. Agreed, I don't like being hot! I do enjoy reading by the pool, but even then I still get bored after a short while!

  14. I'm not really a pool person unless I'm on vacation. However my mom has a pool and I've only been in it once all summer.

I haven't been to a game since May, before summer started, and the next one I'll go to will be in Chicago. I hate sweating at baseball games when I'm there for the experience, not because I'm a huge fan.

  15. I'm jealous you saw Floriday Georgia Line!!! The only things I've really done this summer are pool and bbq's. Nothing extravagent or anything. Sigh.

  16. I'm pretty much in the same boat as you! I literally haven't done any summery activities. Haven't been anywhere near a bathing suit all summer.

  17. I've gone to my fair share of ball games this summer, and I did go on vacation, but other than that I haven't done anything else on your list. I like the fall much better anyways.

  18. I think you've had a successful summer!

Also camping is way overrated, don't ever let anyone talk you into just keep on not doing it!

  19. Sounds like an amazing summer! If I never go to a water park again it will be too soon. People's germs and little kids with potty accidents is just too much.

  20. I do not understand your love of snow, but I do understand your love of crappy netflix movies and that makes more sense to me than anything else :P I hope you get all the snow and Iowa just somehow miraculously stays 74 all winter long. Sound fair?

  21. Um what have you done then? lol! The beach is a must for me every summer. Even if it is just one trip! I don't camp or go to water parks. Not my scene. But beer gardens, pools, beaches, and frappacinos are a must!!!

  22. I didn't do many summery things this summer, except I live in Florida so that sould count for something, right?! I always want to do more seasonal activities, but then regular life takes a lot of that away..wah

  23. Nashville is close to me! I hope you have a great time there in November. I love it whenever I get to go and explore there. :)

  24. I'm right there with you! I haven't been to a watermark this summer, even though I have a Six Flags membership. I also haven't been to the pool at my new health club I joined over a month ago. Did I mention there's a swim up bar? I pretty much suck at life right now haha.

  25. I'm all about the outdoors. Especially when drinking BUT im not a fan of sand or bugs.. or sweat..

  26. I haven't been to the pool or the beach either. Which is super weird because I love the beach and live pretty close to it, and I know several people with pools. I've just been too busy, I guess.

  27. hahahahaha unsweetened and black! hahahaaha I died!

  28. The things that you have done make up for the things that you have not done! I don't think I've been to a pool yet this summer either... strange.

  29. I'm also onboard with "summer is almost over and there is still so much I want to do"! I was lucky to get plenty of pool time during my Vegas trip last week and I'll be hitting the Hamptons beaches next weekend, so my top summer activity that I was to cross off my list is going to an outdoor movie in Central Park!

  30. I haven't done any of these either :(. I feel like Summer just flew by,
