Ideas That Make Me Wildly Unpopular

September 17, 2014

or wildly popular, depending on your viewpoint.  there's no middle ground when you have controversial opinions.  and i have a lot of them i think.

- if given the opportunity to hurt bad people, namely animal abusers, i'd do it.  people often say "oh i don't think i could, when it comes down to it.  i couldn't kill someone."  if you fight dogs, or leave a kitten in a box on the side of the road to die, and someone told me "you can kill this person and never be punished," i would.  i would kill you in less than a second.  and i'd probably sleep better at night.  animal abusers turn into serial killers anyway.  everyone knows that.

- in a similar vein, a teacher in my constitutional law class in undergrad once asked us to write a quick 'get to know you' sentence on the first day of class - 'if you could change, add, or delete anything to the bill of rights, what would it be?'  my answer was that i would do away with the 8th amendment.  'no cruel and unusual punishment.'  namely, so we could test life saving drugs on death row inmates instead of monkeys and rats, because at least then those people would be useful.  yes, i am aware that this means i value any animal life over any human life - and i do.  i probably should work for peta...

- i'm super supportive of the patriot act.

- i hate my grandparents on my mother's side.  grandmother, mostly.  this makes people upset, because everyone thinks of nice loving little old lady grandmothers who should never have the word 'hate' used against them.  but my grandmother is pure evil and my parents and i haven't talked to her in 15 years.  of course, my dad's nice parents are dead and my mother's evil ones are alive.  because evil lives forever.

i think it's ok to be upset about (seemingly) trivial things.  i get annoyed when people say "it's not that bad, you're healthy, no one has died, etc etc."  especially when they say it to kids.  yes, that's true.  but that doesn't make what i'm feeling, or what a child is feeling, any less legitimate.  it's ok to be sad that you broke or lost something that can be replaced, it's ok to get mad when something is a huge hassle.  is it as serious as a major health issue?  no.  but it's happened and you can feel however you want to feel about it.  you're allowed to have a crappy day without everyone jumping on your case with "at least you're alive."

- i really don't like red wine. gives me a headache.

- i also think it's ok to write blog posts when you're in a bad mood.  it can't be perfectly organized closets and photos of hawkeye around here all the time.

  2. I'm HIGHLY offended that you don't like red wine.

  3. 1. I can't stand animal abusers. Pisses me off. What pisses me off more, when people bring human children until the conversation, when in reality they have nothing to do with the animals. I just want to save all the babies and kill all the evil doers. The world simply doesn't need them.

    2. I totally was thinking of this the other day... Instead of testing products or medicine on animals or people (the trials that you sign up for that pay you), they could just use it on inmates or those people.

    3. I hate when people tell you how to feel or can't feel about something, whether it is stupid or not. It is something to you.

  4. I hear you on the red wine. It's the sulfites. Get me every time. Also, yes to testing on death-row inmates. You.. I like the way you think, I think.

  5. I could not agree more with being allowed to be upset about trivial things. You are totally right. Your feelings are your feelings and you should be allowed to be upset about whatever you want!

  6. Ugh, I despise red wine! Guess I'm just super unsophisticated. Does cheap wine even come with those tannin thingies? If so, I've never tasted 'em.

  7. "I am aware that this means i value any animal life over any human life" -- but it means that you don't hold great value on people convicted of horrible crimes. I don't either! Yes, sometimes people are wrongfully convicted. I will say that it drives me nuts when I know people who think that their cats are more important than a child, because I personally think (good) people are more important (at the very least just as important) as a cat. After all, human piss doesn't smell nearly as bad as cat piss.

And I'll echo what Rachael said without retyping it. ^^

  8. I agree with all these. Especially the animals. They are better than people. Lol.

  9. I couldn't agree more with most of these!!!! Great post!!

  10. I hate red wine. It gives me a headache. In my country we still have the death penalty ... by hanging (though it is rarely done) ... so clearly I dont have an issue with cruel and unusual punishment. And as for animal abusers - dead in a minute if I would have no consequences..... same for violent bigots and racists. There. I said it.

  12. What??? People are crazy, I actually agree with these. Especially the ones for the 8th amendment, and being annoyed by trivial things. Red wine.. I'll drink it but I'm not a fan.

  13. First of all, I feel the exact same way about my dad's mother. Of course, he's obsessed with her (because they're the same person), but lord she cannot die soon enough.

Also, you'll probably like this blog post: http://www.kveller.com/blog/parenting/why-do-we-keep-telling-our-kids-youre-ok/

  14. None of these make you a bad person & people who disagree & make a deal about it can suck it. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Of course perhaps I say that because I agree with most of these.

  15. Red wine tastes like shit and feels like razor blades going down your throat. I don't have a relationship with my grandmother because she's too focused on my cousin and her kids. It's ALWAYS about them... and fuck all the rest of her actual kids and other grand kids. That made my blood BOIL!

    Dahmer killed animals....

  16. I'd totally kill someone who abused animals or children. Rapists too, everyone line up. You're done.

I used to drink a ton of red wine, I can't drink that much of it anymore. Pinot noir if I do.

I'm also for testing on death row inmates.

  17. I agree with you on a lot (or all..) of it. I could definitely straight up murder someone if they hurt someone i love. no problem with that. I sometimes like red wine- i have to be in the mood.

  18. I absolutely love this. I totally agree with the first two points, and I have some similar family dynamics going on with absolute hatred and pure evil. Glad I'm not the only one.

  19. i don't really like wine at all, and just reading the first point where you said leaving a kitten outside in a box made me want to cry and then hurt someone, so i absolutely agree with it. and i hate my dad, and his parents, and everyone on his side of the family, so i feel ya there. people always get offended when i tell them i hate my dad and i'm glad he's dead, and i'm like i didn't say your dad, calm down. but if you knew him you'd hate him too.

  20. i get a lot of shit for hating my grandma but she's actually such an awful person. and not just in old age. she has literally been a crusty person her whole life and no matter how many chances given, she doesnt change.

  21. While I don't necessarily agree with all of your points (in fact I do straight up, and sort of strongly, disagree with some of them), this is probably one of my favorite posts of yours that I've ever read. I am a firm believer in someone's ability to have their own opinions about things, and just because we may disagree, it doesn't mean we can't still be friends. :)

That said, I'm totally with you on the getting rid of the 8th Amendment thing. I think violent criminals SHOULD be punished. (And by violent, I mean murderers, rapists, anyone who abuses a child, or a senior citizen, or a mentally handicapped person otherwise unable to defend themselves, or someone who hurts animals for no other reason than to be a sadistic prick.) I am also all for testing medications and stuff on inmates. I kind of feel like when you do something shitty that lands you in jail, then you deserve whatever you get. You knew the law and chose to break it, so I no longer feel sorry for you.

I do really like red wine, though. :)

  22. I'm all for killing child abusers, animal abusers, and any man who rapes a women. I want a chance to shoot at least one if this becomes legal, I was always so disappointed I never go to put my gun skill to good use after the North Carolina Dept of Corrections taught them to me. :)

  23. in canada (not sure how it works in the US) rapists, (domestic) abusers and child molesters get put in isolation because they'd get killed in gen pop. i say fuck that noise and toss them to the wolves because they deserve it. in fact, they deserve to be treated the same way they treated those poor victims. they also have their identities hidden from the public as they'd get targeted once they're out. there was a huge case in my city of a serial killer (paul bernardo) who hunted/tortured and murdered several young women in the city. he was caught as was his accomplice (his gf). he's still in jail but in iso. his gf got out and is now living in hiding UNDER GOVERNMENT PROTECTION because if everyone knew where she lived, someone would put a bullet in her head or at least, beat the crap out of her. that i will never understand - protecting heinous criminals who deserve nothing less than being put in the ground.

  24. I'll join the animal abusers kill gang with you any day. Someone around where I live recently (I should note this is also spousal abuse) made his wife dinner, watched her eat it, and then told her it was the family dog. HE KILLED HIS DOG AND COOKED IT. I. just. can't. I'd kill him in a heartbeat.

  25. I could totally do harm to someone that harmed an animal. Those people are crazy and have no soul. And I am totally ok with using experimental drugs and products on people in prison. They need to contribute something to society since they are sucking up our tax dollars! Let the animals live! I think our bodies react a little differently anyways!

I hate wine. Basically all wine. Ick. Give me beer or a fruity cocktail please!

  26. So with you on animal abusers! That and child abusers. I feel like people who hurt animals and children are the lowest of the low and NOTHING it too harsh.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Yes. To everything. But I have to add child abusers to the list as well!

  29. I think all these are legitimate gripes/ideas. I do hate eternal optimism because it often invalidates our feelings…however, as an elementary school teacher, I'd spend an awful lot of time comforting crying kids in the hallway if I indulged every little thing that went "wrong" for them.

  30. I feel the same way about people who hurt animals! Rage! And I agree about the being upset over smaller things. We're entitled to feel bad about something, even if it is minor! Something that aggravates me lately along those lines is people telling me I'm upset because I'm more sensitive being pregnant. No, I can be upset without my pregnancy being the cause of it.

  31. Just changing the one amendment might add some fear into people. They know their death wont be as horrible as it could be. Tell them we don't know the side effects and people might tighten up their attitudes a little.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I feel the same about everything you mentioned. I hate most of the people in my family. Last week my dad asked me why I was so bitter and full of hate. I'm not I just don't feel the need to care about people just because we are related. I have friends that are better family members.

  33. i like you because of all these things.
and i like you mostly because you're unapologetic for it.

i probably should have gotten drunk with you when i was in chicago two weeks ago.

  34. I just got back to reading blogs, so yours was obv first on the list and this post reminds me how much I've missed you. Love you for all these reasons. Can I add things that people probably don't like me for thinking? If you can't afford a car/washing machine/dryer/etc you probably shouldn't be having kids. Especially the 5 you have running around the bus/train/laundromat/etc. Also, museums and zoos and aquariums should have adult only nights. I'm sick of kids running in front of me to exhibits and lines and just b/c I'm a "grown up" doesn't mean I don't love zoos.

  35. I don't think its fair when people try to make someone feel guilty for being upset about something "trivial" either. Everyone has their own measure of hard and I don't think anyone has the right to judge what another person can handle.

Oh, and my aunt might rank with your grandparents. Ugh.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I can't really drink red wine that much either. Animal and child abusers should like forever so we can treat them the same way. Rapists should be castrated! Period!

    ReplyDelete
  37. um, yes to all. I'm right there with you on every single point.
