10 Best // Ways to Avoid People

this week has been long.  very long.  i've had the worst sinus headaches since sunday night and they just will not quit.  i am very much over it.  i'm hopeful that i can still make it to natalie's on saturday - i promised to teach her law things in exchange for coffee. spending freeze, yo.  and also to hang out before she gives birth the first week of february and then can't see me again for 8 years, or however long it takes to train children to be silent and potty trained.  and not sticky any more, because luke danes was 100% right - kids always have jam hands.

anyway, 10 awesome things you can do this weekend instead of going outside and spending time with people:

netflix: seven is finally on netflix, so absolutely watch it if you've never seen it.  i love it, and i'm not even a huge fan of horror movies or brad pitt.  it's not exactly a horror movie though... thriller, maybe?  whatever, just watch it.  john's never seen it, i'm making him watch it when he's finally (fingers crossed) home for 1 day next weekend.  i did start watching friends, since i've never seen it, but i still can't say i like it.  oh well.

shop: love valentine's day?  hate valentine's day?  either is an acceptable reason for a new purse.

travel: vicariously through kiki's photos.  (perfect if you're travel-phobic like me.)  she's been everywhere, i'm pretty sure.  and she lives in iceland now, so if you haven't seen all those photos, you need to.  it's beautiful.

make: the easiest juice ever.  get your fruits and veggies, even in winter.  it's grapefruit season here, which pleases me, but after that... i'm really bad about being healthy.  because, nachos.

organize: anything and everything, of course.  my home inventory spreadsheet is totally done.  well, in my apartment at least.  there's 1 last box of things to get to in my parents attic, and then it'll be totally done.  i'll get to that box in february when i watch their dogs while they go to florida for 10 days.  i also plan on sketching out my year this weekend.

read: helene's birth-day story.  i think it's pretty neat!

cook: parmesan chicken bites.  i mean, how easy is that?

save money: by shopping wholesale.  except, online.  (of course.)  no membership fee, no crowds.  no costco gas prices either but hey, i don't have a car so what do i care?  boxed ships straight to your door, and tells you how much you're saving.  definitely keep an eye on the sale section.  first order ships free, use the code 0CRXH for $10 off.

help: allison pick shoes.  i just want to see what your answers are because it'll help me for vegas.  for real, if you have a magical pain-free pump suggestion, stop being greedy and share with the group.

and speaking of las vegas, we are officially going, april 15-19.  eek!  (it coincides with our anniversary, aw.)  like i've mentioned, i hate flying and john's almost as bad, so it'll be interesting with his poor brother trying to babysit us while we get drunk before boarding. so,

tell me: all your favorite things in vegas.  where to stay, what to eat, what to do.  i've been more times than i can count, but as a kid.  since turning 21, i've been just twice (i'm pretty sure.)  i stayed at cesar's and the palms and on both occasions was there for another person's event and thus at the mercy of their schedule.  this time, my schedule is wide open.  my favorite is fremont street and the casinos there.  it's the dive bar version of vegas, and we all know i prefer dive bars.  other than 1 night spent there, i have no idea what else to add to my 'must do' list.  any tips?

  1. The Beatles Love is the most magical thing ever. I've seen it four times and it never got old. I loved Jose Andres' restaurant in the Cosmopolitan but I haven't been in a few years so who knows if it's still good? And the Bellagio fountains and the gardens are awesome free entertainment. I could sit in front of those fountains for hours, though.

  2. Thank you for the Luke Danes jam hands reference. Grossly jealous about Vegas. I've never been and I feel like I'm the only person I know who hasn't. So I'll be preparing to live vicariously through you in a couple months, I guess? Oh and as a chronic migraine sufferer, I feel your pain :/ hope it clears up and the headaches leave you alone soon.

  5. vegas: shopping if you're into that. best place is to hop on the shuttle from The Venetian (costs about $10) and it takes you to Primm Nevada, drops you off and you shop for 3hrs. then it comes back and takes you back to the hotel

    - eats: Mesa grill in Caesars, KOI (sushi) in Planet Hollywood, Gordon Ramsey Steak (Paris hotel) - get the beef wellington. my husband hasn't stopped talking about this since he went last year. everything gets compared to that beef welly!,

-good, cheap fun: if you ever get tired and don't feel like walking down the strip, spend the $2 and take the strip bus. you'll see all kinds of hilarious and hammered people getting on and causing a scene. by scene, i mean making fools of themselves. this one guy stepped on the bus and said to the driver: "i'd like 3 seats on the upper floor, please" and actually expected to be escorted upstairs. when the bus driver basically told him to fuck off, he turned to the lady beside him and repeated himself; then asked every other person around him. he was so drunk he didn't understand what people were saying. omg it was the funniest thing.

  8. I'm really on-board with the whole shipping groceries to my door thing, especially since the people at the grocery stores in Atlanta are so aggressive. why you gotta hit a girl with your buggy lady? I'm just overwhelmed by the 234723 different kinds of coffee okay?

  9. Haha I love these posts. Any occasion is a good occasion to buy a new purse. Also I suggested to Allison to wear peep-toe nude booties. Check them out. They're good for so many different types of outfits.

  10. I've never been to Vegas and I thought I was the only one until I read up there that Alyssa has never been either. So maybe Alyssa and I should go together. I should probably talk to her about this! Anyway, I'm excited for you! And since you're going to Vegas I think it's incredibly appropriate to get drunk before boarding. I'm going to be binge watching The Killing all weekend. If you haven't seen it, I definitely recommend it. I'm on Season 2 of 4 I think and I can't stop watching. Happy Friday!

  11. I wouldn't even know where to start with my fave things in a Vegas. There's so many. But probably my most fave is being at the pool. And pool clubs are super fun but pricey... Lots of celebs. I wish you were gonna be in town when I'm there... Boo.

  12. Seven was such a good movie, but it's been awhile since I've seen it. I don't think Friends got good until mid-second season or third season.

  16. I love Seven, I have seen it a dozen times and it never gets old. I've been to Vegas, but because I don't drink or gamble...and because I don't do well with time zone changes...I slept. A lot. It was quite disgraceful to be honest.

  18. The Wynn buffet was my favorite - soo much selection and all amazing food. We stayed at the Venetian and it was awesome - had its own mall inside and it was very Italian loved it. Would definitely go back. :) The poolside was gorgeous too although, they could stand to clean the water Lol In their defense, we went mid-day and it was still very nice outside and hot as balls. Have a great time and take care Stephanie! -Iva

  19. i really love Vegas but honestly have zero suggestions. my friends went recently and they stayed at the Wynn - every restaurant (every restaurant!) has vegan / vegetarian options. next time i will definitely go there. i have stayed at Alexis park (super basic, but fine) and the Signature at MGM Grand (so fancy!). We loved Absinthe - very over the top and if you get offended easily, stay away. I ate at Serendipity -eh. Was ok. I can't really remember where else we ate... a buffet, somewhere. My husband loved the Fat Tuesday daiquiris everywhere, they were too strong for me. We don't gamble much.. we saw Penn & Teller, Jersey Boys (love) and Zumanity (eh but it was after Absinthe, so...). I've never really been to Fremont (I know, I know) but next time I will for sure. I just love Vegas!
I have like $20 'pearce' nude pumps from target and they are literally the most comfortable heels i have ever owned. but of course.. they are long gone now.

  21. I had a sinus headache last week for 3 days. It took me wasting 2 days of Imitrex until I realized it wasn't a migraine

  22. vegas was my backyard growing up. granted, my experiences in vegas are different than yours will be as i don't drink. but i love the coca cola factory, the m&m factory and serendipity. the shops are ceasars as a must. tao is a beach club in the venetian that is awesome. gondala rides at the venetian, fashion place is the best mall. i love the pool at mgm grand and also the bellagio and venetian. you must go to the bellagio because the decorations alone are gorgeous. you also have to go to the wynn. it is so gorgeous.
