10 Best // Ways to Avoid People

netflix: new season of house of cards is available february 27.  yes, all bolded, because if you haven't watched it yet, catch up.  and if you have, well then i already know you're as pumped for season 3 as i am.  kevin spacey, i officially forgive you for the $7 i wasted seeing k-pax in theaters back in high school.

laugh: how to prepare for winter weather when you live in the south.  southerners, you crack me up.

view: rachel's photos from the london eye.  so pretty, but my heart absolutely skips a beat.  so high!  i'll just check out the view from the safety of my computer screen.  on my couch.

read: here's 7 free resources for e-books.  ebooks > people.  obviously.

link up: if you blog, don't forget to take part in lauren's 'i am beautiful' linkup.  every 2 weeks.

clean: your dog's teeth.  i know, i know.  not nearly as fun as downing a bottle of wine while on a friday night nextflix binge.  but, this makes it really easy so you can actually do both.  and still have time to order pizza.  your dog will thank you.

cook: winter vegetable soup.  a must if you're in a cold climate like i am.  and yes, if you're wondering, i'm still loving the cold and snow and even more loving using it as a reason to avoid people.

plan: your trip to iceland.  i am the world's worst flyer, particularly internationally (india was the longest flight ever) but kiki always makes me want to visit iceland.  i don't know that i ever will since i'm such a wuss, but at least i'd know what to do once i got there.  i might be the only crazy really wanting to go in winter though.

create: saturday's the last day of february, so you're not totally out of luck yet if you haven't worked on your complete goals.  hop to it!  and link up is next thursday (5th) so get your posts ready.

prep: st. patrick's day is coming.  i realize it's not the go all out fest everywhere else that it is in chicago, but still - it's an excuse for cocktail cupcakes.  it's also one of my favorite holidays of the year, and no i am not irish.  so if you venture out this weekend, get your ingredients ready.  will you make marshmallow vodka lucky charms cupcakes?  or the perennial favorites, irish car bomb cupcakes?  only 2 weekends to go.  get excited.

  3. My mom and I are going to Iceland this summer because I've never wanted to travel outside the US to anywhere as much as I want to go to Iceland! Can't freaking wait.

  4. ebooks are greater than people. :) So is netflix. Hell, I would choose cleaning Walt's teeth over a lot of people. :)

  5. i always LOL when southerners freak out about 1 inch of snow. i get that they're not used to it and to us, it's just a regular ol' day. that said, when we got minor after-shocks that sort of made the floor unstable for like a second, it was all over the news and people were in hysteria. to the west coat, that's their regular ol' day and for sure they were probably laughing at us.

  6. haha! Yes- southerners freaking out at ANY chance of snow cracks me up. I get it- they aren't used to it. But still...when I can still see the grass, I just don't understand the panic.

  7. I personally prefer the lucky charms cupcakes ... just saying ... I will be avoiding people for most of the weekend and hopefully getting another dishrag knitted for Create. Darn camera!

  8. It's such a good show, I've been waiting!!

    ReplyDelete
  9. YES! Such a good show, Kevin Spacey is amazing in it.

  10. Yep, I think I would choose cleaning Hawkeye's teeth over most people! According to the online test, I'm an extrovert. I'm not sure that's correct...

  11. Really?! That's so exciting!! What a great trip that will be, you two will have so much fun. Sister going?

  12. Haha good point! I can handle winter like a boss, even tornadoes because I was in Iowa so long. But earthquakes? Bye. Even though Chicago is on a giant fault line and all the buildings have to meet earthquake code. Too freaky for me. Hurricanes too, I could never live in Florida or NOLA.

  13. I guess it's because they don't have the resources to combat it? Like salt or snow plows? But... we don't even salt or plow for an inch of snow, definitely not for a dusting when you still see grass. It's not that big a deal!

  14. Haha you cannot handle the Jameson in the car bomb cupcakes, I can just picture the face you'd make! Both are delicious though.
Take backup photos this time! Like, camera, phone, whatever it takes!

  15. i can't get into house of cards. I feel dumb but i just can't get into it. I am a loser.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I will be doing several of these this weekend! House of Cards, brush my dogs teeth, and cooking! ok & wine :)

    ReplyDelete
  17. Wow such a loser! ;) No, I think if you weren't a West Wing person or aren't super into Scandal, then House of Cards is just another one of those political dc dramas you won't really like. Personally, I love that stuff.

  18. Always wine ;) I'm going straight home to watch House of Cards after work and I will not stop until I've seen the whole season! I have a problem...

    ReplyDelete
  19. I really need to do season 2 of House of Cards. Woefully behind.

  20. oooh a new show to watch. OMG I laughed so hard at the Surviving snow. We get snow often, not like poor Massachusetts has. My friend Luann may never get herself dug out, but several decent storms a year, and people still act like they are losing their minds. I'm over the snow and super bitter cold. My pipes have frozen 3 times, busted once, and now my gutters have fallen off the house because of the ice and snow in them. I have a list of things I need to do to weatherize the house for next winter.

  21. OK, this is so my jam, I'm always avoiding people. Also, I have had an Iceland OBSESSION lately - I feel like so many bloggers have made their way over, so there are sooooo many beautiful pictures to peruse!!

  22. I've still yet to watch House of Cards. I'm not sure I'd be into it; but then again I wasn't sure I'd like Serial and then I listened to the whole series twice in a month. So yeah, I guess I should try House of Cards. And OMG I cannot believe St. Patrick's Day is so close! I gotta get on my game.

  23. Almost done with Season 1 of House of Cards. Got distracted by The Fall with Jamie Dornan. Oops.

  24. Can't wait for HOC. Probably going to go home and spend all evening with it. I live in DC so I love all DC tv shows. I freak out when I know where they are.

  25. Thanks for sharing my post, Stephanie! ...And now I want to an Irish Car Bomb Cupcake. Need to make this happen...

  26. My dogs have garbage breath so brushing their teeth is a necessity. Fortunately it's the husband's job.

I need to get on the House of Cards bandwagon.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I have not hopped on the House of Cards bandwagon yet. Should I?

I would take offense to your Southern's Guide to Snow except it is all true. But in the South's defense, we almost always get ICE with snow. No one can drive on ice. And we also don't have snow plows or salt trucks here. So there is that. I myself love a good snow each year. And I don't buy milk. if the power goes out due to ice on the lines, what good is a refrigerator full of food going to do? I guess you could stick it outside in the cold? haha!

  28. Vodka cupcakes? Sold! I will watch Golden Girls until the day I die lol it never gets old, it never stops being funny. Haha that article about preparing for snow is true - we're in Virginia and that's how people react. We didn't even get 2 inches the other day and there were accidents for no reason at all. It's safer to stay indoors not because of the potential weather hazards but because bishes here can't drive! Have a great weekend Stephanie! -Iva

  29. I need to get on my St. Patty's planning. The e-books I am saving to read, they are always a win!

  30. Nope, leaving the Angsty Teen behind. She's too angsty, and since this is my dream trip, I'd rather her moodiness not ruin it. Also she's 17 and broke, so there's that, too. :)

    ReplyDelete
  31. Love these! Thanks for sharing my posts :) Those cupcakes sound SO good, I'm definitely going to have to try 'em! And I'm binging HOC this weekend too!!

    ReplyDelete
  32. As usual I love these. Binge watching shows for the win. Also I actually love long flights so thats definitely one Id jump on.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I'm so glad you're catching up, it's fantastic.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Ugh that is a long list of things to go wrong in one winter! Kentucky winters are more brutal that Chicago, so I'm not surprised, but it still sucks!

    ReplyDelete
  35. I definitely agree, I've seen so many blogger Iceland photos! It looks beautiful. I'm terrified of flying but if I ever got over it enough to leave the country, Iceland is high on the list.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Definitely try House of Cards. It's a political drama (but far more drama) so if you weren't a fan of West Wing or Scandal, you might get bored. But I love it!

    ReplyDelete
  37. I haven't watched the Fall yet, it's on my Netflix list! I'm working my way through X-Files first since I've never seen it. So many good shows!

    ReplyDelete
  38. haha I do that with anything in Chicago! I've never been to DC though. I ended up watching the season the entire way through on Saturday. I didn't even go to sleep until I finished it. No shame.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Of course, Jenn, those were great resources! Definitely make the cupcakes. They are easy and delicious. Everyone loves them!

    ReplyDelete
  40. Hawkeye is not a good teeth-brusher at all. Her breath isn't terrible but I don't want her to have to get a ton of teeth removed when she's older, so we have to brush sometimes!
House of Cards is so good, I watched the whole 3rd season already and loved it.

    ReplyDelete
  41. YES House of Cards is so good!
Haha I always laugh at what people buy before a storm. They do it here too, milk and eggs. I guess you could just stick it outside but... wouldn't something shelf stable and instant be a better idea?!

    ReplyDelete
  42. I LOVE Golden Girls! My roommate and I, in college, watched it non-stop. It was constantly playing for a solid 3 months.
We get the over-confident people in Chicago. Everyone can handle the two inches, but then when it's really bad we get the people who think they can handle it and go speeding along and end up in a ditch. The opposite end of the spectrum, but still just as dangerous and stupid!

    ReplyDelete
  43. St. Patty's snuck up on me, I didn't even have anything planned yet. For some reason, I was like 'oh I still have a month.' Nope!

    ReplyDelete
  44. Of course :)
The cupcakes are awesome, they are always the most popular out of any that I make. And festive! You'll love them.
HOC was fantastic, I watched the entire thing Saturday. Bring on Season 4!

    ReplyDelete
  45. Ohhh you're crazy! I guess it's the take off and landing that stress me out most, so maybe a long flight isn't the worst part. But I'm still freaked out ;)

    ReplyDelete
  46. Ha mine is STILL on repeat. It makes me incredibly happy to re-watch over and over again. :) Man I wouldn't even try to handle 2 inches+ driving, not with my tiny ass car. Nope!

    ReplyDelete
  47. I naively assumed the house was weatherized. I will not be making that mistake next year.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Thank you so much for linking my post! Glad you were entertained by our crazy freak outs! I can't say that I don't freak out about little accumulations of snow, but I at least acknowledge how ridiculous we are! Haha

Also, I'm definitely going to check out that free ebook link. My mother is like the queen of paying little to nothing for a whole bunch of books and I think I need to learn this trade.

I've never seen House of Cards, but everyone is making me feel like I need to do that ASAP.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Your post cracked me up, I know the South is unequipped to deal with snow and ice, but it's still really hilarious.
I love getting free ebooks. Especially when I know it's something I just want to check out and read once, I hate the idea of spending money on that.
YES House of Cards. It's so dramatic, I love it.
