Thoughts on the Super Bowl

i truly didn't care about this match up.  the only team i like is the bears (who will never see a super bowl until they release cutler, that's a fact) and i otherwise root for teams based on who i hate more.  like, i always cheer for whoever is playing the packers.  but i have zero feelings towards the seahawks or the patriots, so this game meant nothing to me.

my favorite part was the fight.  because my favorite sport to watch is hockey and they don't let them fight much any more.  so this was like early 2000s hockey and i was very excited.  bloodshed would have been better but i'll take what i can get.

katy perry was hands down, no question the worst half time show i've ever seen.  what a disaster.  i've never done any drugs but i'm still pretty sure there's not enough acid in this city to have made that show make sense to me, and her lip sync job was pathetic.

next time, just have lenny kravitz and missy elliot by themselves.  or let's go back to classic bands, not a pop star no one will remember in 20 years.  something needs to be done to revamp this half time nonsense if they want anyone to care.  but i do like the break that allows for beer and food refills.

i'm glad godaddy pulled their original commercial about puppy mills, because whoever made that is a pretty sick bastard.

on the other hand, my favorite commercial was the snickers one with danny trejo, probably almost entirely just because of how much i love danny trejo.  i also liked budweiser, of course.  and the budlight but the lack of life size pacman in my life makes me sad.

the rest of the commercials - holy cow depressing.  what an awful year for ads.  the bar is set real low for next year now.

i wish there was a day off after the super bowl.

i'm really glad i didn't have to cook, and stress about it like my aunt and uncle do every year with their crazy party.  you definitely won't ever see me hosting a super bowl party, i'll stick to new years or halloween.

very few of my thoughts on the super bowl have anything to do with the playing of football.

  1. The best part of halftime was Missy and her long ass weave.

  3. The fight was hands-down the most enjoyable part of that whole game and I wanted more. Bummer. And agreed on the Missy and Lenny thing. Katy Perry always seemed like such an odd choice to me and it was too bizarre to enjoy for the most part. Next.

  4. I thought the whole thing was overall boring. It wasn't the least bit entertaining until the end of the game. I noticed the halftime was all full screen and nothing up close. I figured she wasn't singing.

  6. Ahhhh everyone is going crazy over Katy Perry's performance and I HATED it! Finally, someone who agrees. Missy Elliott rocked it and should've been the only performer. Horrible half time show.
And horrible way to end the game... But we already discussed that ;)

  7. I'm a Masshole, so I was psyched to be watching the Pats play/win! I agree that the ads this year were REALLY sad and depressing.... wtf.

  10. Missy rocked. Katy is awkward as hell. Seriously.

I was really pissed off at that fight. They make too much money for that bullshit. Hockey players do not. LOL

  11. Missy stole the show, which was the best thing that could have happened.

I was cheering for the Seahawks only because I like the way Richard Sherman tells everyone what he thinks popular opinion or not.

  12. So glad to hear someone else thought the half time show was terrible! UGH! All the Katy Perry fans I know think she was amazing WHAT?!?!?! I have hosted the big game party in the past, but I realized hosting meant I couldn't actually pay attention to the game. I like football regardless of the team, much more than having to chit chat about stupid things.
And of course, I was pretty much the only person cheering for NE besides Boston. lol! Loved seeing the Seahawks lose! The look on Richard Sherman's face was priceless!

  13. THE MONDAY AFTER THE SUPER BOWL SHOULD BE A HOLIDAY. or. the game should be on Saturday. or not so late. I mean, come on NFL, it's a school night here on the East coast.

  14. I hated katy perry too! Missy totally stole the show.

  15. I agree! I can't believe people didn't know who Missy Elliot is! I agree about the classic rock bands, definitely would have been better. And I may have shamelessly called out of work yesterday to recover from my unhealthy food and beer coma. Shrug.

  16. Missy was awesome, and i hope this means she is making a comeback. I was totally rooting for the Patriots because that's my team, so glad they eeked out the win!

  17. Missy definitely made the halftime show so much better. Lenny Kravitz helped, too. I actually didn't mind it and I really thought the dancing sharks were hysterical. I do not like Katy Perry or her songs like, at all, and as far as her as a choice. TERRIBLE but it could have been worse. And at least she kept her boobs in her clothes.

I had no vested interest in the game but I hate cheating so I was really hoping the Patriots would lose.

  18. I didn't watch it at all, oops. There was a fight? Now I wish I did. Normally we go to a friends house but I had a long day and also I was jut like... eh. Don't care about the Seahawks or the Patriots and I definitely don't care about Katy Perry.

  19. Did they show the 'Dear Kitten' ad? I saw that one on YouTube and adored it, but I didn't watch any of the superbowl so I have no idea if it aired. haha

  20. I missed the Danny Trejo ad, but I personally liked the one with Sarah Silverman and Chelsea Handler. I thought it was kinda funny. But definitely a very weak year for commercials. And for the half-time show.

The brawl, on the other hand, it was kind of awesome.

  21. Basically I could've copied this & pasted it into my own blog (minus the Bears...plus the Vikings). I agree with you 100% here on every. single. thing.

  22. LOL, Steve and I said the same thing, that the fight reminded us of hockey in the good ole days. That said, what a sad sack of overpaid weenies that need to get off their gazillion dollar high horse. Such sportsmanship.... NOT! I didn't care for Katy either, I was so confused. Steve was pissed she didn't show any cleavage. It was way too over the top for the Super Bowl in my opinion, bring back Bruno Mars and the great Wardrobe Malfunction of 2004!

  23. agreed - no fights in a game = boring game. the only time i watched hockey was during the playoffs because there were guaranteed fights. then they changed the rules and ejected any member off the ice for fighting so i stopped watching it because boring.

  24. I didn't think Katy was too bad, but Missy Elliott was definitely the highlight of the halftime show for me. I'm not a huge football watcher, so I didn't pay too much attention to the game until the very end when things got really stupid.

But yeah, the ads were overall really depressing.

  25. Bah! Probably the best SuperBowl recap I've seen this year! I completely agree about commercials. Aside from the Budweiser one and the Always one (both of which admittedly pulled at my heart), none of them were good and the Nationwide one, OMG. Worst commercial ever!
