Choose Your Own Adventure [Link Up]

the theme for february was 'create.'  which was a bit tough for me, really.  i definitely stretched the meaning of the word, because i am not, by nature, a very creative person and i'm a terrible artist/diy-er.  so here's how i fared:

goal 1 - create a recipe post.  check!  in case you missed my fudge, it's here.
goal 2 - create more blog posts in general.  big fat fail.  didn't increase posting-wise at all, and didn't write any ahead of time.  i need to figure out a schedule.
goal 3 - create a vegas itinerary.  check!  everything is set.  flights, room, general itinerary and a list of top 3 things each of us really wants to do.  (lots of overlap, because we all just want to drink...)

the theme for march is relationships.  certainly don't take this to mean you can only participate if you're married!  not the case at all.  we're talking all relationships - parents, siblings, pets, friends, yourself, anyone.

my march goals: (1) more walks for hawkeye.  exercise and bonding time.  so no cell phone either, except to take cute photos of her.  (2) actually get my friends out for their birthdays, that were in february.  i'm looking at you, ida, pick a place for birthday dinner! (3) continue on the mission to help my mom declutter the house.  she's loving the progress so far! (4) something nice for john.  like we anticipated, they totally lied about this project being done in march.  so he's 2 hours away still, for sure until the end of may. maybe longer, who knows.  they suck.  i sent him 1 care package in january, might be time for another one.  or some sweet texts, or homemade meals he can take back when he stops in on sundays.  i'll think of something.

looking ahead, for those of you planners out there - april is finances and may is read.  then we'll be breaking for summer (or completely, we haven't decided.  if you'd like to continue it and take over, i'm happy to hand over the reins to someone.)

so, how did february fare for you?  what are you planning for march?  link up below!

general guidelines:
1) if you want, follow your hosts not entirely perfect, life according to steph, and keeping up with ashley and cody.  (i like twitter, that way i can follow you back and tweet you encouragement throughout the challenge.)
2) link up your post about your results below for the month - we want to hear all about what you did, how you fared, what resources you used, what you'd recommend to others, etc.
3) please link to your actual post about your results.  links not having to do with the challenge will be deleted.
4) feel free to use this button, created by the lovely sarah at venus trapped in mars.

  1. My dog ended up being my only goal. Lol! I actually made my relationship goals in the middle of last month (to be prepared, you know!) and I ended up doing more of them than my create goals. So I figured I'd keep it simple. Plus I could use a break. I love your relationship goals, though! If I wasn't such a bum, I'd be tempted to copy some of them.

  2. you did awesome; but then again, you pretty much knock your goals out of the park errtime. i think i might join in for march; it's a touchy subject so not sure if i can post about it!!

  3. So great of you to help your mom declutter her house. I'm sure she appreciates it!

  4. 2 out of 3 is great! I love the relationship goals. Care packages are so much fun to send/get.

  5. I'm all for handing the reins over if someone has interest. We've had a good run and are finishing out strong.

My dogs are also getting extra play in March. They don't get out much in winter because pugs are divas in cold AND hot weather. Although it's snowing today and we're planning to get them out in it. I foresee having to carry Mae home.

  6. Also SUCK for John being away longer. Sorry.

    ReplyDelete
  7. I put see my friends more often on my list, too. That's one of the things that's so easy to forget about.

  8. Seamus was getting chunky last year so I increased his walk but I love the not checking emails and such on the walks because I am totally guilty about that one. Bummer they didn't get the timing for the project right. I am sure he appreciates the care packages.

  9. Creating more blog posts is always hard, when I have time I think of something else I need to do then never get back to blogging.

  10. I really like the relationship goals you've set for this month. I think it's awesome that you've been helping your mom declutter her house. It sucks that you have to spend more time away from John, but I love the care package idea. I wish I'd thought of doing something like that when my husband and I were dating long distance years ago!

  11. homemade meals for John is such a good idea :) that sucks that the project isn't done yet :(

  12. totally agree on glass containers, so much better than plastic! i am not big on candles at all, but last year i got some of the B&BW candles and I am obsessed now. They actually make a room smell good! I wear fleece lined leggings under pants during the winter, they are so amazing.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Im with you on the candles and the planner! Definitely thinks I splurge on!

    ReplyDelete
  14. You and me both on creating posts haha. We really do need a blog day again!

    ReplyDelete
  15. Aww that's so sweet that you send care packages :) I'm sure he truly appreciates and cherishes them. :) Send some lingerie hahaha :) Have fun with this months adventure Stephanie! Have a great one -Iva

  16. Fleece lined leggings sound sooo amazing. Totally agree with you on dog food. Only the best!

    ReplyDelete
  17. Hey, nothing wrong with the dog being your only goal, lord knows my dog is my most important relationship! Sometimes, it's better to concentrate on just one thing and do it well.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I usually pick goals I know I can hit, nothing crazy. I save the crazy goals for 101 lists, where I have a longer time frame.
You can definitely join in in March, even if you just give your goal a thumbs up or down at the end. No need to throw everything out there all the time!

    ReplyDelete
  19. She is loving it so far! We have a ways to go, but the progress is visible so it's really nice.

    ReplyDelete
  20. He loves opening things (like he hates gift cards at Christmas, he wants to open things) so care packages are right up his alley. Just have to figure out what to send!

    ReplyDelete
  21. My mom caved and got a stroller for her oldest dog and it's the freaking cutest thing in the whole world. He's so happy.
Hawkeye is loving her extra walks, she does fine in the cold so she's happy to romp in the snow!

    ReplyDelete
  22. Yeah, it's crappy, I hope the end of May will be IT and they'll stop dragging this shit out.

    ReplyDelete
  23. It really is, especially when they read this blog and we text/gchat. It's not the same as being in the same physical space, sans technology.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I am so guilty about emails and blog reading while on walks, so I'm trying just keep my attention on Hawkeye. She seems kind of annoyed though, like I'm bothering her while she plays and sniffs haha

    ReplyDelete
  25. I am so swamped at work lately, it's really hard to sit down and write. I do have ideas! I just can't seem to find the time to get them down.

    ReplyDelete
  26. It's so tough, I'm sick of it! But he does love the homemade meals. When he's on his own, he makes plain chicken breast and frozen veggies!

    ReplyDelete
  27. We definitely do, and I don't even know when I have time for that! Every weekend is filled with house hunting now since John can only ever go on Sundays, maybe Saturday if he can get off work. Sucks!

    ReplyDelete
  28. He loves the care packages, I get him things he forgets about - gum, chapstick, beef jerky, random treats like that. Still sucks to be away though!
My parents' house is coming along great! It's pretty fun when you can actually see the progress.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Hahaha lingerie! That's a good one! He does love getting the packages, I'll have to send some other fun things this month. Any more ideas? He's not big on sweets like candy or cookies, so that makes it tougher.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I get mine at Target, totally inexpensive and I love them!

    ReplyDelete
  31. I do the same! I ended up with 7 new BBW candles for christmas and I was thrilled. I think I have like, 2 left. Seriously, I burn one every night, they're amazing!

    ReplyDelete
  32. Yes he does! They're our babies, they get the best.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I am thankful I'm not a meat eater, IT'S SO EXPENSIVE. I do buy the good stuff when I make meat dishes for John, but I'm happy with my cheap eggs and vegetables haha.
Yes to skincare, although I'm still finding my favorites. Since I never break out any more, I need to change up my face wash to something gentler and a little more moisturizing. Oh, aging.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Oh definitely, never pay $22.50! I don't understand why they don't just permanently lower the price but oh well, I'll take the sales!

    ReplyDelete
  35. The best leggings ever. They're so warm, but not at all bulky. I love them!

    ReplyDelete
  36. I have to have a good planner if I want to use it, I just know I won't use the small cheap ones. It's not in me haha.

    ReplyDelete
  37. haha! That's a good one! I definitely splurge if I eat out. So much good food out there, I'm not wasting my time on anything crappy.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I've gotten Yankee before too, I do like them. I always feel like the scents I prefer with Yankee just don't smell as far as BBW though :( I wish the scent would travel a bit more!

    ReplyDelete
  39. I burn a candle every single night, so I think it's worth it to get good ones that work well and fast! BBW definitely meets the bill.
I lived in my fleece leggings this past winter. They're so warm and comfortable, I forgot how I ever lived without them.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I live and die by my planner haha. I really put it to good use, so I don't mind spending the money on an awesome one.
I need another BBW sale soon, I'm down to just 2 candles left!

    ReplyDelete
  41. Oils are good too, they have more powers than candles, like improving health and things - I just don't understand it all! So I stick with candles for now.
YNAB is amazing, it completely turned around how I think about finances and how successful I am with saving now.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I didn't like the wax cubes because I was lazy about cleaning it out well when I wanted to switch scents. Candles are easier for me haha

    ReplyDelete
  43. Oh yeah, I believe it! My friend gets cat food that the smell of makes my eyes water, and it's so expensive. But we pet people always go for the expensive stuff!

    ReplyDelete
  44. I've never heard of wasabi and soy almonds! I guess it's better that I don't go find them though. and I haven't tried spotify, but I do love netflix. We all need entertainment in our lives, so I think it's worth it.
Got photo confirmation from the vet that Hawkeye's teeth have improved this year using the expensive teeth cleaning food, so I'll keep on buying it!

    ReplyDelete
  45. The fleece lined leggings are hardly bulkier than regular leggings, so you should definitely try them! I just grab mine at target, I love them. SO warm.
Hawkeye is on Blue Buffalo lamb. I don't know if it has grain - I think it does. What are you using?

    ReplyDelete
  46. Oh yes, good bedding! It lasts so much longer - the cheap stuff needs constant replacing. I'm bad about shoes that will last though. I still buy cheap flats. I'm not sure flats are even capable of lasting though, not when I wear them every day.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I love YNAB, it's totally changed my way of thinking about finances. And I love that I can track everything on my phone and it syncs with my budget on my computer. Which I have on both my home computer and work computer. So convenient!

    ReplyDelete
  48. Haha I absolutely spend more per month on dog food and treats than I do on food for myself. Not even an exaggeration.
I keep hearing about quest bars so often lately! People must love them!

    ReplyDelete
  49. I haven't had any personal scares with food or treats, but I don't want to risk it. Hawkeye's health is the most important thing.
Glass containers have been amazing. So much easier to clean and use, reheat things in, they're just great.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Everyone has their own splurges, I think it's totally fine to love expensive coffee and mascara! I know what you mean about the others - it's not an everyday thing, it's just... if you're going to travel or go to a concert, do it right! You're spending money regardless, might as well spend a bit more to make it exactly what you want.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Glass has been so much better and easier to use, now that I've switched. I didn't realize what a hassle plastic was!
Yep, only made in the US for Hawkeye, and I need to be able to read the ingredients. I looked into making stuff all on my own for her, I might do that eventually. It's not too hard!
I'm not a traveller, but I definitely spend on the dining and drinking category too ;)

    ReplyDelete
  52. Ooo I'm actually excited for us to chat tomorrow about our housing viewing adventures this weekend!!! Something to look forward to on a Monday!

    ReplyDelete
  53. I suck and drafting posts ahead of time as well so ... yh. And Im not the best creator so definitely would have sucked at this months prompt. Love your goals for the relationships prompt.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Same brand! Blue Buffalo the grain-free formula for large dogs. Actually we just switched because we started shopping at Costco (Nature's Domain) but we liked Blue Buffalo.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Seriously, lingerie LoL Alcohol - men love alcohol. Funny shirts or a sweater that makes him think of your sassy wit. Oh and beef jerky - not sure why but men seem to love that nasty junk. :) What else does he like? I can help brainstorm ideas if you wish. Gift giving is fun!

    ReplyDelete
  56. B&B works does have the best sales and I'm with you on their candles. Also their foam soaps!

    ReplyDelete
  57. this might not be a "splurge" since it's pretty cheap to begin w/...but I'm gonna go w/ cereal. I used to get the generics b/c holy shit, I'm not paying $5 for a box of lucky charms, and then I sadly realized that the marshmallow magic, or whatever the store brand is scamming me on is definitely just cardboard 'mallows. maybe $5 on cereal is a pretty big splurge after all, since you can never just buy one. three boxes later, and it adds up pretty quickly...

    ReplyDelete
  58. LOL, Steve and I were just in Yankee Candle yesterday, and I was like B&BW candles are so much better I'mpretty sure they are on sale for 2/$22 this weekend. Wooooot!!! I do splurge on higher end makeup and I have an Erin Condren planner. But I MUCH prefer $1.81 Dunkin Donuts to $5 Starbucks any day.

    ReplyDelete
  59. I find it surprisingly hard to get my friends/family out for their birthdays. I'm a major home body. I would rather "bring them" to farmers market and to watch netflix on my couch. Most of them would rather I bring them to karaoke and dance to terrible bar music.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Ooo money saving tip in case you don't already do this - save the foam pump bottles, buy the bigger, regular soap of the scents you like, and pour some in an empty bottle, fill with hot water and shake - same foam soap for half the price!

    ReplyDelete
  61. I think that's a splurge for sure. And I'm with you, off brand cereal is NOT the same. Maybe besides the basics like Cheerios. But nothing can replace real lucky charms, they are they original and the best!

    ReplyDelete
  62. they were on sale! I almost caved but I don't need any quite yet, so I'll wait for the next sale. I don't know anything about makeup though, so I go cheap. It seems to work haha.

I prefer the Dunkin too, I get it black and theirs is way less bitter than Starbucks black.
