Taking On Too Many Things At Once

life is just busy lately.  work more so than anything else, but still, other life things like house hunting and 10,000 dog walks have kept me from getting to everything i should be doing.  (like blogging...)  but i keep taking things on, adding to my to do list.  do you ever do that?  add more things when you know you shouldn't?  it's as if somehow i believe that having a lot on my plate will push me to be more organized, more productive, and to procrastinate less... but it never does.

procrastination is my jam.  i've never not procrastinated big projects, papers, etc.  it's just what i do.  sometimes my best work comes to me at the 11th hour.  sometimes it doesn't.  but it's still never stopped me.  i think it's because i got my highest grade in all of college on a paper that i began and finished after i got home from the bar at 2 am and turned in at 10 am.  and now i have an artificially and baselessly inflated ego regarding my task completing abilities, when i should really remember that it was a seminar class in science fiction literature and my paper was on blade runner.

i'm off topic.  back to too many things - i have been doing none of them.  i go to work and do actual work things, yes, but other than that, i push a lot of things back further and further.  cooking, blogging, cleaning, laundry, budgeting - i mean, for someone who doesn't have a television that's a lot of adult-like things to not be doing.  so what have i been doing instead?

pinning things.  what else is new.

creating my next 101 in 1001 list, even though my current one isn't over until this time next year.  if you're on day zero project, let me know so i can follow you!  i like following people's progress and getting ideas for my next list.

commiserating over my bracket.  in defense of my 35 out of 48 correct picks, at least all my final four teams are still in it.  so there.

using redfin to search homes online.  in the searching and buying process, just 5 months until my lease is up.

transferring over all my favorite reads to feedly.  bloglovin is the most terrible service, seriously.  life is better on feedly, but the transferring takes time.  and on that note,

weeding out blogs i don't read anymore.  i'd say 'it's not you, it's me' but it is probably you.  most likely, you just had a baby.  bored now.  but also,

adding new favorites.  probably, you have a dog and post lots of dog photos.  that gets you on my favorites list instantly.

playing naked girls photo hunt on the touch screen machine at the bar.  i found one on which i do not have the high score, and that is (a) unheard of in chicago and (b) unacceptable.  no one is better than me at that game.  no one.  i must correct this machine.

watching old biggest loser seasons on hulu.  when i'm cleaning my apartment, i watch hoarders.  when i'm on a weight loss mission, i watch biggest loser.

posting photos of hawkeye to instagram.  i think i've already posted more in these last 3 months than i did for the entire year of 2014.  everyone is happier for it.

i guess i'm not really taking on 'too many things.'  i'm just really skilled at procrastinating the things i have taken on.  but that face, it must be shared with the world.  can you blame me?

  1. Really? Feedly is better? I don't have a problem with Bloglovin per se. I just don't like they way they only promote certain blogs. And the ads are annoying as all get out.

  2. I'm the same way in that I can't not procrastinate. Also because I always got great or perfect grades on college papers when I started them the day they were due. Oh well. Plenty of time to browse pictures of Hawkeye on insta. (Keep 'em coming.)

  3. I am not a procrastinator. I have to get it done in advantage. What's the day zero project? I haven't had any problems with bloglovin. I take on way to many things at the same time

  4. Hmm... what makes Feedly better than Bloglovin'? And you make me laugh "you had a baby, so bye" haha :)

  5. I am so impressed you are working on a new 1001 list, I still need to do one list let alone two. Yes to more pictures of Hawkeye, adorable!!!

  6. I always feel like it is somewhat perverse to watch Hoarders while cleaning my apartment, but it has become a part of my weekend ritual — Hoarders, a donut, and some deep cleaning.

I'm glad I'm not the only person who removes the recently babied/adds the newly puppied bloggers. I don't know why, but I genuinely enjoy looking at 10,000 photos of someone's Lab and get bored beyond belief by photos of their baby. I know I should feel bad... but I don't.

  7. 1) Nudey photo hunt is my jam. You are now my heterolifemate forever and ever. 2) you can never have too much dog in your be it on Instagram or on a blog. Babies you CAN have too many of.

  8. I love procrastinating. It's my favorite. That's why nobody has heard from my blog since NYE. I always read you though. Every day. Oh, and welcome to feedly! I've never used it on my computer but I do use it in my phone. Love you; miss you!

  9. Anyone that posts lots of dog pictures is someone I want to follow! I am with you though, I have been taking on way too much only to procrastinate and stress about all the things I took on!

  10. my friend just created an IG account for his dogs - one is a french bulldog and the other is an adorable pug. i love those accounts! do you follow the IG account "harlowe and sage"? 3 cute dogs cuddling or playing or sleeping. adorable.

  11. I need to know more about this Feedly vs Bloglovin thing. Bloglovin has been seriously letting me down lately (why did it take them so long to fix the problem where they didn't recognise that you actually read a blog?).

    ReplyDelete
  12. I can't stand Bloglovin'. I'll follow people on there but it's certainly not my method of reading blogs. Feedly is the way to go. I just don't like how bloglovin is organized, it's a bit busy looking and it overwhelms me. When my hubby spies on my Feedly, he's always asking me which new email service I subscribed to, when I'm looking at the ALL list. It's just nice, simple and clean looking.
You've inspired me to create a new 101 in 1001 list. I had one way back in the day but this is fun to do and something to work out/look forward to checking off your items.
    P.S. Hawkeye is a handsome fella ;)

  13. You're the second person this week to suggest feedly. What do you like better about it?

    ReplyDelete
  14. Dog photos are the best. Forever. Always. Especially Walter and Hawkeye photos. :)
I hate Bloglovin', too. I may have to check out Feedly.

    ReplyDelete
  15. No ads on Feedly :) It's just so much cleaner, easier to navigate. Bloglovin never works for me, every time they update it messes things up, like not recognizing when I read something. It was too frustrating.

    ReplyDelete
  16. hahaha yep exactly - the great time waster than is Insta. I keep scrolling until I hit a pet picture, no shame! Hawkeye loves to be featured, so I'm trying to get her up as much as possible :)

  17. Day Zero Project is a website where you can track all your goals list, like my 101 in 1001 list. You just type it in and then you can mark things off - it tells you what percentage you have done and how many days you have left. Plus you can check out everyone else's lists. It's neat!

    ReplyDelete
  18. Once they turn to mommy blogs, I'm lost. I'm totally uninterested, and I don't think any babies are cute. ever. Myself as a baby included. Little alien potatoes with eyes. Creepy.
Feedly is so much nicer! It actually recognizes when I mark things as read, for one. No ads, it's also much cleaner and easier to navigate. And the apps work way better - Bloglovin on my phone was a disaster!

  19. Betsy (musings of a museum fanatic) is done with her first this summer, so as she's been discussing her next list I've been getting ideas and getting excited! You should do one, I find it to be pretty motivating, checking stuff off.
Hawkeye says thank you, she'd be featured everyday if I could remember!

    ReplyDelete
  20. I think I'm going to transfer over to feedly too. bloglovin just sucks. and i think people are buying likes and followers for that matter and I just want to be done with it. also sometimes procrastinating isn't bad. like you said- you get the best inspo (sometimes)

    ReplyDelete
  21. Wow. I've never had those problems with Bloglovin, so I don't have anything to compare to. I checked out Feedly yesterday after reading this post and I felt a little lost. Am I missing something, or do you have to manually import each blog you follow?

    ReplyDelete
  22. I googled it after I typed it. I made a 101 in 1001, but I didn't type it in anywhere. I might have to do that. I need to be better about accomplishing things off my list.

    ReplyDelete
  23. most likely you just had a baby, bored now.... <--- dying laughing! More Hawkeye pictures all the time please!

    ReplyDelete
  24. I want my current 101 to end so I can start my next one. I'm so pumped about my next one, mostly because I feel like I was more honest & realistic than I had been with my first one & my current one.

    ReplyDelete
  25. i need to get a dog. good thing i don't have a baby though ;) i hadn't heard of redfin, i got all excited to find a new house stalking site but i guess we are out of their areas. i was about to switch to feedly the other day but it all looked too complicated and hard, but i imagine i'll do it slowly because even though bloglovin is working now.. i'm sure it will mess up again soon.

    ReplyDelete
  26. What do you like best about Feedly? I don't have much experience with them. :)

    ReplyDelete
  27. I can't follow baby blogs. Once someone has a kid I unfollow. Sad but true.

& those naked girl searches are the best. I haven't found any down in KW though!

    ReplyDelete
  28. Oh Hawkeye!!! So cute! And I LOL'd at playing naked girl photo hunt at the bar!!! There is a bar here that my husband used to DJ at that had one of those and we got pretty darn good at it!! And Bloglovin' has pissed me off more lately than ever before. I am getting posts in my feed from like three days ago that I missed the day it was posted. Sometimes the posts dont open and I forget who it was I just clicked on bc I read like 5 at a time. I need to try Feedly!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Holla! My final 4 teams are still in too, for now. I'll cling to that fact while I can ;) Also, if I get a dog does that mean I get bumped to favorites?! Fingers crossed.....

    ReplyDelete
  30. I was doing ok until Villanova lost. I had them in the Championship vs Kentucky. Ugh! At this point, I just need my team to bring home another banner. Go Cats!

I'm always more organized when I have more on my plate. I don't know why this is, but it's true. And right now, my plate is FULL! Blogged today for the first time in weeks.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Please do a post on this naked girl photo game at the bar. Redfin was totally my favorite - all other apps sucked. Well done in your bracket...mine is definitely not looking that good!

    ReplyDelete
  32. Always love Hawkeye pics. Also Yay!!! Glad I just got a dog and I am safe, until I get boring again. Also disregard typos, I am drunk blogging again...Oops. I never used Redfin, but zillow was my BFF during the home buying process. Also did i ever Admit I am flirt/chatting with the guy that sold me my house, Damn that guy was HOTTT!!!.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Best of luck on the house search!! That is always stressful. I love the Hawkeye pics!! Yes to Feedly!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Okay but that picture..just chillin' on the pillow like a human.

    ReplyDelete
  35. No ads, no problems loading and recognizing when new posts come in, no issues when I mark something as 'read.' And a much cleaner layout! It's a bit harder to get all my favorite blogs on there (everyone has a bloglovin button, few have RSS buttons) but you can just type the URL of the blog and it'll find it.

    ReplyDelete
  36. She says thank you :) She loves being featured!

    ReplyDelete
  37. I agree, Walter and Hawkeye forever!
Feedly is much improved over Bloglovin. Bloglovin is so buggy it drives me bonkers. I have had zero problems with Feedly.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Haha! I love that ritual. I know I'm nothing like a hoarder, but somehow it's just so motivating. Ugh especially when they have roaches and mice, I scrub so hard when I see those roaches scatter!
I can look at dog photos all day. Even parents admit, small babies just aren't that cute. Dogs, well dogs are always cute. All of them, all the time. I pretty much just keep scrolling on instagram until I hit a dog photo.

    ReplyDelete
  39. YES!! Nudey photo hunt!! I get so excited when other people love it too.
Completely agree. No one ever thinks babies are that cute except their own parents. But dogs, everyone loves dogs.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Maybe I should move to feedly, but my reading list is so small these days it seems like to much.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Feedly is that much better? I'll definitely be checking it out, thanks for the tip! & I don't think you could ever post too many photos of that adorable little pup! :)

    ReplyDelete
  42. "adding new favorites. probably, you have a dog and post lots of dog photos. that gets you on my favorites list instantly." - totally me! Your dog is so adorable by the way. I could just play with her all day. lol

    ReplyDelete
  43. Procrastination is my middle name, it drives pretty much everyone around me insane. Hawkeye kills me, every time I say we are not getting a dog you pop up a photo and I weaken....perhaps I could just borrow Hawkeye for a while!

    ReplyDelete
  44. Im a procrastinator too and like all lawyers I know including you now that Ive read this, my best work usually does come at the 11th hour. It is what it is. Life has been busy for me too and I feel bad that I kinda dropped the blogging ball this week but when real life calls ... it is what it is.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I can so relate, baby no, cat yes ( and sometimes puppies too) oh yea and weddings sorry NOPE, luckily babies and weddings have their own huge followings so they won't miss me much right?

    ReplyDelete
  46. I've been weeding out bloggers too, I realized there are a bunch of blogs that I haven't actually read in months because I'm totally uninterested in the content. I also got rid of anyone I was following that hadn't posted in a year. Definitely curious about feedly, lately bloglovin' has been super glitchy for me and it's getting real annoying!

    ReplyDelete
  47. It's definitely easy to buy followers on bloglovin, which is why I wish more people would pay attention to stats from alexa or google analytics instead of 'hey I have this many bloglovin followers!' Blah.
Feedly is SO much better. Bloglovin pissed me off too many times with their crappy updates that ruined everything. And, no ads on feedly :)

    ReplyDelete
  48. I know, I usually have no one to blame but myself. It stresses me out and I just end up half-assing things.
    Hawkeye completely agrees with you.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Haha baby photos/stories are just zero fun to someone who doesn't like kids. My best friend of 20 years just had a baby and even with her I'm like 'staahp with the photos man!'
But photos of her cat? Give me more! I think Hawkeye photos make everyone's day just a little better, you can't help but smile :)

    ReplyDelete
  50. That's how I feel! I got a better handle on the time frame and the financial aspect with the second one. The first one I also put a lot of travel, and I don't know why because I hate travel.
When does your next one start? Mine won't be until next year. Technically, the current one is over next March, but I feel like anything I can still accomplish on it, I'll get to by fall and the rest will never happen. So I might start my next one early, like January.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Well you're already on the favorites list, but a dog would help of course ;)
I'm sure bloglovin will have another 'update' that ruins everything. I thought feedly was intimidating too at first, but just type your blog into the search bar and follow it, you'll see how easy it really is!

    ReplyDelete
  52. Oh they're great! No ads, never bugging, much better phone app. Plus a very clean design, which I love.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Aww I wish they had them there for you, it's the best bar game! I completely rank bars based on whether or not they have one.
(Sorry my reply is 2 weeks late, I'm catching up!)

    ReplyDelete
  54. Ha my bracket was a disaster. Damnit Kentucky.
You're already in favorites, but a dog would probably bump you straight to the top :)
(Sorry my reply is 2 weeks late, I'm catching up!)

    ReplyDelete
  55. Feedly seems tricky at first, but it's not at all. It's so great. You just search for your faves in the search bar and add them. Harder than the bloglovin button everyone has, but worth it in the end. It's so clean and not glitchy at all.
(Sorry my reply is 2 weeks late, I'm catching up!)

    ReplyDelete
  56. SO SAD THE CATS LOST. So sad. The only thing that made me happy is Wisconsin losing, because I hate Wisconsin more than any other team in the entire United States.
I do think I prioritize my time better when I have a full plate. I get everything important done. But then I feel like the little things fall off (like blogging.) I need to take less on I think.
(Sorry my reply is 2 weeks late, I'm catching up!)

    ReplyDelete
  57. Haha I should do a post on it! I'll have to take some photos the next time I play. Particularly of my high scores, because I'm just that food.
My bracket ended up awful. What a disaster.
(Sorry my reply is 2 weeks late, I'm catching up!)

    ReplyDelete
  58. Haha you have so many pets, you're safe for years!! I love all the pet photos. I'm using Zwillow a bit too, but with Redfin there's a free agent who works with us and he's been super helpful.
I love drunk Holly :) Still chatting with the hott former owner? I hope so. I hope you responded to that pic he sent, finally!!
(Sorry my reply is 2 weeks late, I'm catching up!)

  59. The hunt is still going. Such a pain. We took the weekend off for Easter but we'll be back seeing places this weekend. I'm already so over it.

(Sorry my reply is 2 weeks late, I'm catching up!)

    ReplyDelete
  60. it's what she does ;) She absolutely thinks she's a person. That may be my fault.

    ReplyDelete
  61. It did take awhile to get all my faves moved over, because everyone has bloglovin buttons but not Feedly ones. But it was worth it in the end, I like it so much better.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Oh yes, Feedly is so much cleaner and never glitchy, I love it. Took awhile to get all my favorites moved over, but it was worth it.
Hawkeye loves everyone telling her she's adorable, so the pics will keep coming!

(Sorry my reply is 2 weeks late, I'm catching up!)

    ReplyDelete
  63. She says thank you! The little ham. I love bloggers that have dogs. I cannot get enough pet photos, they're all so stinkin cute!

(Sorry my reply is 2 weeks late, I'm catching up!)

    ReplyDelete
  64. Haha she does that to people! She makes everyone want a little bundle of fluff of their own :) Doooo it.

(Sorry my reply is almost 2 weeks late, I'm catching up!)

    ReplyDelete
  65. All my lawyer things come at the last minute. It's just how our brains work I think. Plus there's so many cases, each day is something last minute. I cannot WAIT for vacation, I'll tell you that. Turning my phone off.

(Sorry my reply is almost 2 weeks late, I'm catching up! Procrastination at it's finest.)

    ReplyDelete
  66. That's very true, I can't do weddings either but hey, they have their own audience, no big deal! Pet people I can relate to. Moms and brides? Not so much.

(Sorry my reply is a bit late, I'm catching up!)

    ReplyDelete
  67. I'm still attempting to sort through some blogs on bloglovin. I got all my favorites over to feedly and it's awesome. Took a bit of work but it's so worth it - not glitchy at all! Still seeing if a few blogs are worth the work to move over haha. Might be time to just say goodbye.

(Sorry my reply is a bit late, I'm catching up!)
