Choose Your Own Adventure [Link Up]

it's that time again - link up day is here.  how did you fare in march?  remember the prompt for march was 'relationships.'

how i did:
(1) more walks for hawkeye.  check.  when the weather cooperated, we went to the park and the corner bar.  what?  she loves the bar, she gets a stool and everything.
(2) get my friends out for their birthdays that were missed in february.  check.  i actually got them both out on the same day, lunch and dinner!
(3) continue helping mom declutter.  negative.  some things came up at my dad's office so i had to help over there for 2 weekends.  hopefully we can weed more things out this month and if not, well i'm watching the dogs again over memorial day and i'll just start tossing things.  they won't miss what they don't even know is there.
(4) something nice for john.  check.  made him homemade pasta, meatballs and marinara sauce (his favorite.)  but i did not send another care package because he had weekends off and... drum roll... as of yesterday.... he's home!  the job out there isn't finished but since he worked so hard they rewarded him when a job opened close to home.  no more 2 hours away, no more rented apartment out there.  woo!

the theme for april is 'finances.'  just in time for tax season, oh joy.  my goals?
1. continue on my spending frost, at least until vegas.
2. try to keep a cap on the vegas spending.  i'm going to generally sketch out each day and guesstimate, and try to stick with that number.
3. cut down more on vegas costs by being frugal with the stuff that doesn't matter.  like bringing my own brita water bottle and snacks.
4. try not to go too crazy on april 27 - hawkeye's 6th birthday!  no promises though.  this is, like, an almost unattainable goal.  taco bell fiesta with toys and treats and everything her royal highness loves?  bound to be pricey.

so tell me all about how you did and what you're planning for april.

general guidelines:
1) if you want, follow your hosts not entirely perfect, life according to steph, and keeping up with ashley and cody.  (i like twitter, that way i can follow you back and tweet you encouragement throughout the challenge.)
2) link up your post about your results below for the month - we want to hear all about what you did, how you fared, what resources you used, what you'd recommend to others, etc.
3) please link to your actual post about your results.  links not having to do with the challenge will be deleted.
4) feel free to use this button, created by the lovely sarah at venus trapped in mars.

  1. You cannot hold yourself back for Hawkeye's big day.

When on vacation, I will typically bring plane snacks but always reach a F it point and just relax the wallet.

I cannot get enough of the photo of Hawkeye on her barstool.

WHOOP! So glad John is home. That's awesome.

  3. Bringing travel snacks is a good idea! Lately we've been buying airport food and it is, almost invariably, disappointing. Congratulations on having John back! Long distance relationships are a pain.

  5. She got a hotel party for turning 5 last year, so I think we can rein it in this year. Maybe just a taco cake, one of John's socks, a dirty kleenex, a chapstick... you know, all the things she loves more than than $20 toys I buy her.
I hate buying airport food so I know I need snacks for that, but I think I'll also bring protein bars for breakfast. I generally dislike eating in the morning and I'm not a fan of breakfast foods so I think it would be a waste of money.
I think that's my all time favorite photo of Hawkeye :)
SO glad that 2 hour away crap is done! Very nice to have him home.

  6. Thank you! Hopefully the rest of April will be kind to my finances, because Vegas is going to sting.

  7. I'm definitely not a fan of airport food. It's too overpriced! I'll just have to bring some protein bars and nuts or something.
It's really nice having him back, the two hours was tough.

Thanks for the link up - never participated in this before, although I've seen it, so I think I'll join in! Thank you :)

  9. So glad John is home. Long distance relationships suck. Emmy's birthday is Saturday don't even ask me what I've spent on everything. She is having a sleepover, 10 kids please kill me now.

  10. I could totally see how being in Vegas could be a wallet-breaker so good for you for setting yourself up for success and having a spending plan. Happy early 6th birthday to Hawkeye!

  11. My friends and I were just talking about how expensive Vegas can be because we have a Bachelorette the end of this year! I will most definitely be bringing my own snacks/water bottle and we plan on stopping at the liquor store on the way to the hotel. Pre-gaming helps!

  12. Hooray to him being home! What great news!

We're going to Disney this month and doing the same thing with water bottles, specifically the Brita ones. Need to save money somewhere!

  13. You did great with your goals!! I loved the picture of Hawkeye on IG the other day on the barstool :) Too cute!! Glad John is back home! We always go buy a pack of water at a store when we get to our destination, because I am not paying $5 for a bottle of water in the hotel room. I usually try to pack some snacks too for the airport. We always eat too much once at our destination to really need snacks :) Have a great time in Vegas!

  15. yaaayyy John's home! that's so fabulous. When we went to Vegas a couple years ago our first stop was Target lol and we bought a bunch of groceries so we only ate one meal out daily. It saved a lot of money! and a 6th birthday is something to celebrate, i say go all out!

  16. Thank goodness my taxes are dun-dun-dun-dun-DUN! :) Woop! Happy to hear John is home! Nothing better than having someone to love, argue with, whatever when you get off work :) Hope you succeed with all your April goals lovely! Take Care Stephanie -Iva

  17. Ugh, taxes! That's something Steve is psycho about so ours have been done for 6 weeks already. If it were just me that shit would't be done til April 15th. So glad John is back home, must have been a great day when you got the news. Hawkey gets his own stool at the bar? Hell, sometimes I can't get a stool at the bar <3

  18. I'm all over the finances theme! Vacation, job changes, budgeting... this is a major money month for me!

  19. You did great on your goals and well I have no doubt you will rock out the finances goals - haha try not to go to crazy for hawkeye's bday has me chuckling and smiling. Too precious!

  20. Yay! Welcome :) We'll be doing finances this month, and a reading challenge next month, and then breaking for summer. Definitely join us.

  21. Haha I'm so glad it went okay! Thank goodness they behaved.

  22. She says thank you! Yeah vegas is definitely going to be tough, I'm hoping that curtailing the food spending (something that I don't care much about) will help!

    ReplyDelete
  23. Absolutely! There's a Walgreens right by the Venetian, with regular Walgreens prices. We'll definitely be stocking up on the essentials when we get there - no sense in spending $20 on a mediocre drink or beer in a casino!

    ReplyDelete
  24. It's definitely so nice to have him back :)
I'll be bringing my Brita too, I'm sure I'll be asking bartenders to fill it for me in each casino haha. Cheaper than bottled water or liquor, that's for sure.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I'm bringing my Brita bottle so I can keep filling it throughout the day, but we're definitely hitting the Walgreens when we get there for extra bottles and food. We'll eat a ton in Vegas, but I think I still want snacks and breakfasts. (I hate normal breakfasts so I hate paying for it!)

  26. Thanks! I know, my finances need work too. I was doing really well but March hit me hard so I need to get back on the wagon this month.

  27. It's so nice that he's finally back!
ugh I'm already spending this month. Bad Stephanie, bad. I did need summer sandals, but 4 pairs? And 2 dresses? No. Bad bad bad and it's only the 8th. Come lock up my cards!

  28. She does agree with you. Last year we did a hotel party, I'm hoping this year I can get away with a taco cake in the bar. Fingers crossed.

    ReplyDelete
  29. We're hitting Walgreens as soon as we get there. There's a lot of places the guys want to try for food, but we all agree breakfast is never worth it. So we'll be getting breakfast options and alcohol. Of course.

    Hawkeye agrees with you ;)

  30. I have an accountant guy, so I think everything is done. I know I owe money though, so that'll be a real treat when that bill comes :(
It's so nice that he's home, I didn't realize how much I missed him!

    ReplyDelete
  31. I think mine are done (I don't do them myself) but I know I owe money so I have no interest in hurrying the process along. Stupid taxes, I'm over it!
Oh yes, Hawkeye is queen of the bar, they all love her! She gets a stool before John or I do, that's for sure.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Ooo lots going on for you! I need to buckle down again, I'm already on a downward spiral this month and it's only the 8th. YIKES.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Haha you know I'll end up spoiling her rotten, as always! I'm already spending too much this month though, I can tell. I gotta rein it in!

    ReplyDelete
  34. I feel like each season you gotta get a few new pieces to mix in with your current wardrobe, so yeah you needed it :)

  35. I had Abbey and her friend Hannah there to keep them in line.
