On Blogging, Almost Three Years Later

it's true - almost 3 years here in this little space.  you'll see in the archives that my first post is from june 2012, but it was actually may.  i deleted it.  it was about clothes i think.  (probably a wish list like 'hey mom, i need this dress' because if your mother won't read your blog, who will?  p.s. hi mom.)  and there's been many, many posts since.  on a variety of topics, sometimes even 5 days a week.

not that all those posts are marvelous little writing gems, but you'd still think i'd run out of things to say in 3 years.  some days, it does feel that way.  but most days, i can find it in me to ramble.  ramble in ways people actually want to pay attention to, not always, but ramble nonetheless.  to quote my friend eleni, who doesn't trust quiet people, in response to my claim 'but i'm quiet,' told me "okay, but.... no."

apparently, she's not wrong.

even so, 5 days a week is definitely not happening around here anymore, in case you haven't noticed.  even if i have enough to say, i just can't keep up the pace consistently.  more work responsibilities, more life responsibilities, it's tough.  tough to give my of-course-always-totally-hilarious post ideas the attention they deserve.  so i've definitely cut back a lot.  now don't start thinking that i want to cut back completely - i don't.  i just want to change it up a little.  yes, yes, i know, i hate change.  but it won't be a monumental change.  just going to attempt some longer posts just a little less often.  say one or two (maybe 3 but let's not get crazy) posts per week.  i figure if i can't keep up with reading someone else's blog 4 or 5 days a week, certainly no one can keep up with mine either.

i'll still talk about all my favorite topics (generally summed up as 'the laughably absurd tasks of adulting'; you know, organizing, finances, relationships, general nonsense and the occasional cupcake made out of booze.)  you'll just notice some changes to the menu bar up top and some longer posts, and my name in your reader popping up less often.

all this to say, i have no plans on going anywhere and hopefully you don't either.  just going to try to change up the format a little.  longer posts, more substance, less often.  and an infinite number of hawkeye photos, because,

  1. I think it's perfectly fine to mix it up. My weeks range from 2 to 4 posts (I think I had a crazy 5 post week at one point) and it's nice to know I can adapt it to whatever works for me at the time. I only write when I have an idea and usually I have 8 at once, so they all get scheduled and then I do nothing for a couple weeks. I'm actually caught up on my prescheduled posts right now (which rarely happens), so... I guess we'll see what happens.

  2. keep up the awesome work. i always find your posts interesting or a good perspective or they teach me something. I'll definitely be sticking around for the long haul.

  3. I definitely will still be here! It is so hard to keep up with blogging and everything else!

  4. "the laughably absurd tasks of adulting" is one of the best descriptions I've ever heard of all that followed...and I love it. and I love them all. No matter if you're here once a month or once a week, I'll show up when you do. So glad to have found your blog this year!

  6. Yay for 3 years! I've been around for about 4, and still have no plans of going anywhere anytime soon either ;-)

  7. Only 3 years? I feel like I have been reading forever! Work and life just keep getting busier and busier for us too! I feel like I binge read blogs these days, but never have enough time to slow down and comment :( So guess what I am saying is...I am still here, still reading no matter how many days you choose to post :)

  8. I wonder how so many of us kept up the five a week thing for such a long time (most people longer than I even tried). I guess using work time to work is only fair, but still, using it to blog was far less stressful. Looking forward to your long posts and cheers to changes in blogland in general.

  9. Keep it up - love reading what you have to say, and pics of Hawkeye certainly don't hurt :)

  10. Happy 3 years!!! I started my blog in 2012 too :) It is crazy to think that I have had so much to say over the last few years. I always enjoy your posts and will be around here regardless of how much you post because you are awesome! And Hawkeye..clearly dog cuteness is always a thing!

  11. i find that those who blog when they want to blog have the best content; you can kind of tell when people are just posting for the sake of keep up with a schedule (read: snoozefest). even now, with work fuck-off time, i don't feel like/want to post every day...also, because lazy :D

  12. I'm glad that you have no plans of leaving us! My blog has went through a lot of ups and downs and changes and directions since starting mine in 2012 too! I've definitely found that I enjoy it more when I don't force it and that when I take days off? No one (except my mom!) notices hehe. Keep it up friend- your blog rocks!

  13. Cheers to three years! I think I'm in my fourth? My first post was August 2011 I think.

  14. I get a bunch of ideas, but then I never find the time to get them all written and scheduled! I'm hoping this way, I'll have more time to work on each post and make them better. But I'm still in the testing stages, so who knows. Blogging is harder than it looks!

  15. Aw thanks Helene, you know I love you! I'm glad to have you around :)

    ReplyDelete
  16. Thanks girl! It really is so hard to keep up with. And then I want to read and comment everywhere else each day... it's overwhelming.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Haha it's so true though isn't it? Add cleaning and working to that list and it's like, seriously, who thought this adulting thing was a good idea?
So glad to have found you too, I'm glad you're here :)

  18. Thank you Kenzie! I still can't decide if 3 years flew by or went slow, but I'm glad I made it this far.

  19. Thanks Kate! Good, I'm glad you're sticking around. Although my wallet would probably be happy to stop following your clothes finds...

  20. Only 3! It does seem longer when I look back at all the archives, but some days it still feels like I just started this whole game.
I completely hear you on the binge reading. I'll read 40+ posts and not comment on a single one. Eek! I need to work on time management I suppose. But I'm glad you're still here :)

  21. I miss being able to blog during work time. I would even do it on my lunch break but I find that I actually NEED the break these days, like away from any sort of screen. So longer posts less often is what's needed right now. Hopefully it works out like I'm planning!

  22. Thanks Meagan :) Pictures of Hawkeye is what keeps everyone coming back, I just know it. She's the star, I'm just her backup dancer.

    ReplyDelete
  23. All the Hawkeye photos, please!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  24. Aw we've been reading each other for a long time now!! I'm glad you've stuck it out 3 years too, thanks for always reading! Even if you just stick around for Hawkeye ;) I know she's the reason, it's okay.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I agree, I can tell when it's forced (even when I do it myself!) I don't want it to be too dull, which short, last minute posts definitely can be.
Nothing wrong with lazy. Blogging does add more to your plate so I say enjoy the full work fuck off time while you have it!!

    ReplyDelete
  26. Aw thank you love :) Crazy how much things can change in 3 years! Mine's definitely a lot different now, but I like it better. Hopefully this less often posting schedule will work out. I don't think anyone notices when I take days off either, heck not even my mom haha.

  27. I think I've been reading you since I started blogging. You had to have been one of the firsts, I'm certain of it! Those pugs, I can't resist ;)

    ReplyDelete
  28. Hawkeye is happy to oblige! She's not as much of a camera lover as Walty, but she loves being told she's cute.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Congrats on three years!! Ummm you better keep the pictures of Hawkeye coming :) Glad to hear you are planning on continuing, I enjoy your straightforwardness and sense of humor.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Congrats on your 3rd year of blogging! Can't wait to read more posts from you (and see more photos of Hawkeye). lol. Love your blog!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Woo! A milestone! Congrats.

    Sounds good lady.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Thanks Kristen :) Yeah I can't read blogs who post everyday, I don't even try. It's too hard to keep up, so definitely no way I could do that myself!
Don't worry, the Hawkeye photos will keep on coming!

    ReplyDelete
  33. Thanks! Oh yes, the Hawkeye photos aren't going anywhere :) Hopefully neither is the humor and lack of tact.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Thanks Camille! There will definitely be more Hawkeye photos to come, she loves to be featured that little ham.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Thanks :) Hopefully this new schedule will allow me to catch up on other things, like reading and commenting!

  36. I've been reading from the very beginning, and you were my first GFC follower. Seems like just yesterday. I'm with you on the life is busy and I try to post but its just not happening as often. I'm long over due on making some changes .

    ReplyDelete
  37. I remember first following you! Time flies, doesn't it? You should make some changes, I'm a fan. Usually I hate change in my life, but on the blog, it feels good. Fresh, somehow.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Happy three years!

One of the things I love most about blogging is that it's so fluid, it allows for changes like you're describing. You can make it fit into your life instead of making your life fit around it. I went from 5 days a week to 3 and it was one of the best changes I've made. Hope you like your new schedule!

    ReplyDelete
  39. I wish I could tell new blogger babies to take it slow, five days a week is great but it doesn't last. Imagine all the great content we'd still have to write if we had started slow

    Happy three years!

    ReplyDelete
  40. Happy three years.

I try to post at least 4 days a week and leave it at that. I used to do at least 5-6 but it was getting to be too much.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Congrats on 3 years! I've definitely put my blog on the back burner these days, and I dont really feel bad about it. Life happens. Do what you need to do sweetie, not going anywhere!!!

    ReplyDelete
  42. Happy Three Years!! Mine has changed too. More rest days when I need them and more Seamus. Hawkeye pictures are always welcome! :)

    ReplyDelete
  43. I completely agree. 2-3 posts a week is the way to go to stay sane. Hey, if you feel like busting out 5 then do it, but it makes blogging so much more enjoyable when you're not "obligated" to post. Cheers to three years!

    ReplyDelete
  44. Thanks!
I do love that it's my own space and I can do what I want ;) I think the new schedule will really help me, because it'll give me more time to actually answer comments, plus read other blogs and comment, something I've been missing lately!

    ReplyDelete
  45. Haha so true! I've definitely had months where I was able to just bang posts out, 4 or 5 days a week. man, imagine the content I could still have waiting in the wings...

    ReplyDelete
  46. Thanks!
I was trying 4 too, but I've been getting overwhelmed with even that lately! Hopefully sticking to 1 or 2 will really ease things up (unless I have a million things to say of course)

    ReplyDelete
  47. Thank you :)
I always read as soon as a new post of yours pops up. I think spacing them out makes me more excited to see how you're doing, so it totally works!

    ReplyDelete
  48. I love more Seamus :) haha this blog is going down the path of all Hawkeye all the time, but I do think anyone minds!

    ReplyDelete
  49. It's definitely much less stressful when I just do what I want! Hopefully having just 1 or 2 posts per week will ease things up and give me more time for actually responding to comments and reading other blogs!

    ReplyDelete
  50. Happy 3 years! What an achievement. I once read that a staggering number of blogs disappear after less than one year because so many bloggers give up on it. For a number of reasons I'm sure. But to stick with it for 3 years is a true sign of your passion for it.

PS - I'm all for more photos of Hawkeye!

  51. Love that picture of Hawkeye!! My blogging has been a lot more Spuratic lately. I have tons of great ideas but more work responsibly as well.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Congrats on your 3 years lovely!!! That's quite a marvelous feat :) I've always been a "less is more" blogger - I don't have it in me to write any more than once a week because each post is so time consuming. We each do what we can as we're able. Glad you're not going anywhere though!!! Stick around and talk soon Stephanie! Have a great weekend -Iva

  53. Congrats on three years of blogging girl!!! I hear ya on the whole "blogging all the time" thing. It's rough! Because ummm life happens and you want to live it! :) And that pup!! LOVE!

    ReplyDelete
  54. Good luck with the new format! I'm glad you're sticking with it. :)

    ReplyDelete
  55. because Hawkeye is just so cute.... congrats three years is awesome.

    ReplyDelete
  56. I believe it, it really is tougher than it appears. So much behind the scenes stuff! But I really do enjoy it.
And there will always be more photos of Hawkeye coming :)

    ReplyDelete
  57. Yeah my work is out of control lately, so I don't even want to touch a computer once i get home. I hope it eases up soon!

    ReplyDelete
  58. I love your posts! I couldn't imagine them more often - you do so much research and find so many facts, I can only picture the work you must put in each time. But it pays off, they are so interesting!

    ReplyDelete
  59. She says thank you :)
Blogging is tough and I feel like there's even more behind the scenes work than ever. It's worth it, but time consuming for sure!

    ReplyDelete
  60. It really is! Feels like I just started!

    ReplyDelete
  61. Thanks :) I want to keep going but definitely at a slower pace. I think once or twice a week is manageable!

    ReplyDelete
  62. Thank you! It feels good to have stuck with it this long.
Hawkeye says thanks too :) She loves anyone telling her she's cute!

    ReplyDelete
  63. Thank you gorgeous! :) Means a lot to hear that. Hoping for at least 3 more years of you on this blogsphere missy! :)

    ReplyDelete
  64. I'm glad that I am not alone with it. I try to blog on Sundays but sometimes I literally want to relax.

    ReplyDelete
  65. I need to do this. Instead, I haven't blogged at all. Oops.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Oh definitely give the once or twice a week posting a try. It's been so nice, no more pressure!

    ReplyDelete
  67. Congrats on the (almost) three year mark!

Consistently blogging is definitely tougher the older you get and the more responsibilities you have... I've been trying to do twice a week this year but I've failed a few times already. Just do what you feel comfortable with and don't overwork yourself. :)

    ReplyDelete
  68. Thanks!
Yeah that's very true. More things going on in life = less time for blogging. Right now twice a week seems manageable but we'll see! haha I don't think I'll feel too bad if I miss a week.
