Three on Thursday

Welcome back to Three on Thursday, my weekly even though I sometimes skip weeks list of things I'm loving at the moment that I think you should do, try, or buy.  If you're interested in past weeks, you can find those here.

1. Think Dirty iPhone AppThe easiest way to find green makeup and skincare products!  Just scan the bar code of something you want to buy, or type in whatever product you're looking for, and it will tell you how safe it is on a scale of 1 to 10.  When you click the product to see all the ingredients, they have each one listed and tell you what level of toxic it is and why.  This makes it so much easier when you're in store, trying to find a healthier deodorant, toothpaste, or mascara.  Or, to see just how terrifying your current products are and make you want to switch (like away from every NARS item I own, woof do they use some bad ingredients.)  This is a newer app so it won't have everything you try to search for but it's a really, really good database to start with and new things are added all the time.  Even if your exact product isn't listed, you'll be able to see something else similar or by the same brand and sort of gauge from there.  It's on Google Play too and it's, of course, free.

2. The Magnolia StoryFixer Upper fans, get this book.  I love Chip and Joanna, I think they're just adorable.  I actually got the Audible version of this, so I could listen to them narrate it, and I was not disappointed.  They tell the cutest stories about how they met and how their life was before television.  It's just a really sweet read that fills in what the show misses: their background and behind the scenes.  I don't know that people who don't watch the show will care that much?  But if you're a Chip and Jo fan, this is probably already on your wish list - get it!!

3. Unplugged Nation.  Season 2 is airing now, and I'm ridiculously in love with show.  I already watched all of season 1 when it was available on my Apple TV.  For someone who is never ever going camping in her life, I sure do spend a lot of time watching the hilarious host, Jay, take city slickers out into the country to live completely unplugged for a few days.  I mean, they're not actually camping - they're in super nice but totally off the grid houses.  They're all powered by hydro or solar energy.  He teaches them how to live off the land, make fires, conserve energy, cook their own food, hunt and yes, kill, animals.  Sometimes they just learn how to raise chickens for eggs so they don't have to kill an animal in every episode (and they don't show it, just hint at it.  It's still a much more humane way for an animal to go then commercialized meat packing.)  No tv, no phones, no neighbors, I just find it so fascinating to watch because I've literally never even been someplace that remote, let alone lived here.  Tiny houses are fun to watch, don't get me wrong, but if you're looking for something new, watch this!

Happy Thursday friends.
