Valentine's Day Cocktails

Tomorrow brings Valentine's Day, though I bet a lot of people celebrated over the weekend.  We did, because John graduates Wednesday so we can't do anything too crazy tomorrow.  He had a 'prom' on Friday, so we got dressed up to party for that, and had some other couples over to our house beforehand for the pre-gaming.  I thought it was a good time to make some fun cocktails, something festive for the almost-Valentine's Day season.  And I used just what we had on hand, because I don't like stockpiling ingredients we rarely use.  One thing I always have is Chambord, I love that stuff.  It's a raspberry liqueur, most well known for it's use in french martinis, which are my go to if I'm not having a beer.  I mixed it with a couple different things for different palettes, and here's what I came up with:

First up is a traditionally girly martini, the Raspberry Cupcake.  All you need is whipped cream vodka and Chambord.  Make it about 1/2 to 1 shot of Chambord to every 2 shots of chilled vodka.  If you're not a regular martini drinker, this may be too strong for you with just those ingredients, so feel free to top it with a mixer like tonic water or even pineapple juice.

And sometimes too much of that sweet shit will give you a headache, so try the Chambord Manhattan.  For a Chambord Manhattan, use the same ratio as the martini but with a nice bourbon instead of the vodka.  Traditional Manhattans have a dash of bitters and a cherry but I'm lazy and I hate cherries.  If you're more of a whiskey person (there's a difference), then Jack Daniels mixed with Chambord and lemonade over ice is called a Velvet Elvis.  I didn't invent that, it's a real drink.

But my personal favorite?  I'm a beer girl, what can I say - a shot or two of Chambord in my beer and I'm happy as a clam.  Gives it a nice fruity flavor, you know, really upping my Bud Light game.  Classy, I know.

Hopefully that makes you want to try something new tomorrow.  Happy Valentine's Day!
