That Harry Potter Life

One of the gifts John got me for Christmas was the entire set of Harry Potter movies on iTunes, so I can marathon them whenever I want.

I actually blogged about it the last time we did one with my friend Natalie.  But John had never seen them before.  Never.  I know.  So naturally we had to marathon them.  And I decided to do the Harry Potter tag, which floats around the internet in various forms, as we watched the movies so they were fresh in our minds.

1. What is your favorite book?
It's so hard to say because they're great for different reasons.  I love the first because it started everything, but then I love Half Blood Prince where so many little pieces start coming together from across all the stories.  That's when you really see just how much foresight JK Rowling put into her work.  Nothing was ever random or filler, and I seriously appreciate that level of attention to detail.

2. What is your favorite film?
Sorcerer's Stone.  I know the last few are better visually and there's more going on, but the first is a classic.  I love it every time I watch it.

3. What is your least favorite book?
Goblet of Fire.  I know, I know, it's full of action and other books are slower but this just felt like intermission.  I realize it all led up to the cup and the return of Voldemort but it dragged for me and felt so unbelievable, like, oh yeah the cup has spoken, that means Harry should play even though your main rule is about the age limit?  WTF, no.

4. What is your least favorite film?
Order of the Phoenix.  Mainly because of Umbridge, ugh.  But also the movie was generally slower and less interesting to keep up with than the other ones.  It is the first appearance of Luna though!

5. Parts of the books/films that made you cry?
When Hedwig died.  When Dobby dies (specifically when Harry screams for Hermione because she always comes to his rescue but they both realize there's nothing she can do.)  When Hermione blasts Fenrir Greyback when he was killing Lavender.

6. If you could hook up with any character, who would it be?
Oliver Wood.

7. Who is your favorite character?
Hermione is everything but my favorite is still Luna. I just love her.  She doesn't get nearly enough appreciation, even though she's kind, brave, and brilliant.  The world needs more Lunas.

8. Who is your least favorite character?
Umbridge.  I mean, who is NOT going to say Umbridge? Awful.  But I do have a 2nd answer. Because although I loathe Umbridge, the fact that she's so universally hated is a sign that Rowling actually wrote an amazing character, and that the actress performed amazingly in the movies, you know what I mean? So the other character that I just felt was annoying and most of her scenes just unnecessary would be Rita Skeeter.

9. What is your favorite quote?
"Boom?" " BOOM!"

10. What is your least favorite quote?
Nothing comes to mind from the books, but in the movies it's probably something movie Ginny says. I loathe movie Ginny.  Book Ginny rocks.

11. What would your Patronus be?
Raccoon! I am solid in my belief that my spirit animal is a raccoon and I have no doubt that my Patronus would be one too.

12. What would your Boggart be?
A plane?  I'm not exactly sure, since it's supposed to be the thing you're terrified of (like Ron and spiders) and I'm most terrified of flying and heights.  How does that translate into Boggart form though?

13. What would you rather have - the elder wand, the resurrection stone or the invisibility cloak?
The cloak.  The stone just creeps me out, and too much trouble comes with the wand, people trying to kill you for it all the time.  The cloak is awesome though.

14. Which house would you be in?
Hufflepuff.  I have a lot of Slytherin tendencies too though, maybe I'm a Slytherpuff.

15. If you were on the Quidditch team, which position would you play?
Beater! I'm not skilled in sports. But I can beat the crap out of things. In the sports I did play (soccer, basketball) I was more enforcer than anything else.

16. Which class would be your favorite?
Care of Magical Creatures.  That would be the number one class I would want to take.  I love muggle animals so I assume I'd love wizard animals just the same.  Thestrals and hippogriffs are bad ass.  But assuming I grew up the same, then Muggle Studies would probably be my favorite just because I could ace it when the pure blood smarties wouldn't.

17. If you could bring one character back to life, who would it be?
Hedwig. That was the death that made me cry, because Hedwig was kind of like his dog, so that would be Hawkeye jumping in and dying to save me. I considered Dobby too but in the end, pets over people, ever single time.  Sorry Fred.

18. What would your job be in the magical world?
Magizoologist, like Luna.

19. If you could meet any member of the cast, who would it be?
Dame Maggie Smith because I just love her in everything.  Particularly Downton Abbey, but just everything.  Can you believe she's 82?!

20. Were you happy with the ending?
I realize why everything went the way it did but I don't know that I love Harry and Ginny together (although, like I mentioned, if you've only seen the movies, book Ginny is WAY better and a much better match for Harry in the books) and I don't think any character we met was good enough for Hermione.  But I did like it, I approve.
