Grocery Challenge Finale

September 29, 2017

I survived the month of pantry eating and limited grocery spending!  Pretty pleased with the results, I have to say.  At the very least, we really did clear everything out before buying anything, which was my original goal.  Did you work on your pantry this month?

Stuff I Always Pack

September 27, 2017

Megan and I are off to Iowa next weekend to meet Tara for tailgating and football Go Hawks!  I was going to show you what I'm planning on bringing, a 'packing like a minimalist for a weekend getaway' post, but come on, anyone can pack minimally for just a weekend trip.  I'll save that for when John and I go away for 10 days in November.  Instead, I'm sharing my list of what I always bring with me, whether I'm staying over at someone's house for only one night or going away on a longer vacation.

6 Podcasts to Add to Your List

September 26, 2017

My days have been involving a lot of podcasts lately.  (Am I the only one that keeps typing it as podcats and then having to go back and correct it?)  Podcasts and audio books, because like I've mentioned, I can't read anything on my commute to and from work because I get motion sickness like a little kid.  Depending on the timing of my bus, my commute can take anywhere from 35 minutes to an hour, each way (usually it's 45 minutes), so that gives me a lot of time to just listen to stuff.  Based on other people's recommendations and my own bouncing around the iTunes library, I've found a few podcasts that I think are worth telling you about.

Empties Lately

September 25, 2017

This post may contain affiliate links.

About a month ago, I posted my 18 before 2018 list of the goals I wanted to work on before this year ends.  #12 was about finishing up my mostly done products I have floating around the house, which I've really gotten a good start on in the last few weeks.  I ending up 'hiding' some of the newer things, i.e. putting them in a basket in the closet so I couldn't use them until I used up the old items, so I have a lot of empties to share with you.

Cheap Meals and Money Saving Tricks

September 19, 2017

So far, the grocery challenge is working out well, and we've got a week and a half to stick it out.  The beginning was easy.  On Labor Day we had a family party where food was provided, we went out to eat for my dad's birthday, and I pet sat for all the dogs while my parents were out of town (my mommy pre-makes me food when I pet sit, because I'm still the baby.)  We were able to have totally normal meals the first week and a half because we had all the ingredients we needed, mostly in the freezer - like we bought all the stuff necessary for a meal with the intention of making it, but then something must have come up and we just stuck it in the freezer for 'next time.'  But now we're starting to get into the last items and we're having to buy a few items to round out our meals while still keeping costs low.  So I'm going to share some of my top go to meals that are super cheap as well as some of the other tricks I use to spend way less than normal at the grocery store.

Popular Things I Can't Stand

September 18, 2017

I don't try to dislike things just because they're popular.  There are some very popular things that I think are fantastic!  I watched the Gilmore Girls revival, I burn Bath and Body Works 3 wick candles, I'm a Jennifer Lawrence fan, I want to vacation to Harry Potter World (again.)  I can totally get on board with popular.  But there are just some things that I don't grasp the appeal of.

Transition Your Home For Fall

September 15, 2017

One week out, so we've already started the process around here of transitioning to fall and winter, both inside and outside the home as well as in the closets and even with my skincare.  I thought I would share a few of the ways you can also transition your home.  Some of the things in the post I did cover in my annual home maintenance calendar post, but I'll repeat them here in case you missed it.

Favorite Fall Essentials

September 13, 2017

The official date of fall is slowing creeping closer, it's next Friday, and I'm ready to be one season closer to winter.  It actually feels a bit like fall already, which I'm obviously happy about.  We had warm weather last year well into October, I even remember Halloween being quite mild comparative to other years (though it still rained, it always rains in Chicago on Halloween, sort of like it does in Kentucky on Derby day), so I'm happy we're already getting some cooler temperatures.  We're slowing transitioning our home over since John let me put up a few Halloween decorations inside, but he said I have to wait until October 1 to put them up outside (fun hater), and I'm already stocking up on all of my other fall must haves too.  Besides the Halloween decor, I figured this was a good time to share some of my other favorite fall essentials.

Five Books Lately

When looking for a new book to check out, the Show Us Your Books link up is one of the first places I check.  And yet, I've never actually linked up to it myself.  But I remembered this time!  I was like 'okay, second Tuesday, I'm all over this.'  I finally remembered to track what I've been reading lately, so here we go.

Questions You Didn't Ask

September 11, 2017

I found a list of 200 questions to ask someone, floating around on Pinterest.  It's where I go for blog content ideas.  There's no way I was going to answer them all, clearly, but I quickly scanned the list and some fun ones popped out at me that I saw fit to share here.  The list I randomly plucked these questions from can be found here, if you'd like to answer some of your own.

Make Quick Money (Without Annoying Your Readers)

September 8, 2017

I don't blog about blogging, I think there's enough of that around.  Plus most of my readers are not bloggers, so it wouldn't apply.  But I've been using a pretty quick and easy way to make $100 a month with about 5 minutes of work, and it doesn't have anything to do with having a blog, so I figured I should share that.  Because that's what friends do.

Create An Intentional Evening Routine

September 6, 2017

This post may contain affiliate links.

Like I mentioned yesterday, I think evening routines are just as important as morning routines.  Maybe even more so, because I believe you set your self up for success or failure in your day based on what you do the night before.  Here's how I went about setting up my more intentional evening routine.

Create An Intentional Morning Routine

I need my intentional morning routine, because using my mornings well affects my entire day.  If I wake up late and don't follow a plan, my whole day feels off and I don't get everything done that I need or want to.  A morning routine gives you time and energy for the things that matter most, so I'm sharing not just my routine but also how you can set up an intentional morning routine yourself to help guide your day.

5 Reasons I Love Football Season

September 4, 2017

Football season has arrived!  The Iowa Hawkeyes played their first game on Saturday and the Chicago Bears play their first regular season game this coming Sunday.  And I also draft for my fantasy team tonight.  Although I prefer college football, football in general is my sport of choice.  To watch, not to play.  (And after NASCAR, obviously... though if it came down to it, I'd watch the Hawkeyes over a race.)  Why, you ask?  Here's just 5 of the reasons I love football season so much:

September Grocery Challenge

September 1, 2017

I decided I'm doing a finances and grocery related challenge for the month of September.  It's going to involve and fridge and pantry clean-out and a drastic reduction in what I plan on spending on groceries for the month, if anything.  Want to join in?
