Cozy Christmas Eve Essentials Box

There's a big part of me that prefers Christmas Eve over Christmas, and I don't think I'm alone.  Christmas day means the finality of the whole fun season, but Christmas Eve is still full of hope and lights and magic.  I like that.  I also like that the whole day, at least for us, is all about being cozy and totally relaxing.  Given the fire schedule, we do have to sometimes move around when 'Christmas Eve' actually is, but we still make it count.  I usually make some sort of Christmas Eve box, which is a small, fun little present to open a day early that contains all the necessities to have a quiet and cozy evening at home.

Here are some of our favorite essentials for a cozy Christmas Eve for you other homebodies out there:

Christmas Pajamas.  Did anyone else always get new Christmas pajamas as a kid?  My mom always gave them to me on Christmas Eve, so I'd be ready for Santa in the morning.  We still do this now, only I'm buying my own and also picking them up for John.  He's getting a new pair of cozy flannel pants and I'm getting this plaid flannel top, because I have enough pants and short sleeve shirts already, but not enough for cold weather.

Socks and Slippers.  John's getting new slippers, he requested them.  I'm still on the fence about what I'd like.  There are some really cute slippers out there, but I've always been more of a socks girl, so I'll probably go that route.

Christmas Movie.  Adding a Christmas DVD to the gift is perfect, because it gives you something to watch while you relax and get in the spirit of the holiday.  I actually pre-load money onto iTunes and then put a note in John's Christmas Eve bag to pick something to rent.  We already own his favorite, A Christmas Story, and already have my favorite, Die Hard, recorded on our DVR (along with all the Santa Clauses and Home Alone 1 and 2.)

Movie Watching Snacks.  John actually hates popcorn so it's never in our house.  But I think he's in the minority.  But we do load up on pretzels, gummy bears, hot chocolate with peppermint or cider with whipped cream vodka.  If you're going to go the hot chocolate route, make it the good stuff and get designer marshmallows too.

Books.  If we're lounging the entire day, I'll also put a book or two in.  I like that better than just watching TV all day.  It's also great if you have kids, you could put a Christmas story in there to read together.  I'm currently reading Chasing Slow.

A Fluffy Blanket.  If you don't already have one, this is a great time to get one of the huge fluffy blankets that are available this time of year.  We have two Target ones that we love, and I got this one from Pottery Barn for John's sister (it matches her Christmas dish pattern.)

Holiday Candle.  Like any list of mine would be complete without a candle.  We love Fresh Balsam because it smells like straight up Christmas tree, and since we have a fake tree, we don't get the scent.  I also really love Winter, it's very festive.

How do you spend Christmas Eve?  Do you prefer it over Christmas day?
