Simplified Guide: Meals and Meal Planning

January 31, 2018

I think it's pretty clear how big a fan I am of simplifying everything in my life.  It's definitely more than just decluttering my house.  I'm hoping to have a guide to simplifying something in your life every month, we shall see.  But at least I have one for you this month: meal prep and meal planning.  Since I decided to eat totally clean as my health goal of January, I've spent a lot of time in the kitchen.  But not nearly as much as I thought I was going to have to, thanks in part to smart and simple prep and planning.  Hopefully the tricks I use will help you too.

House to Home: Organized Kitchen

January 26, 2018

This post may contain affiliate links.

The kitchen wasn't an area that I was concerned about making feel particularly 'homey,' but it was the area that was driving me the most nuts in terms of little organizational things being out of place.  It just wasn't functioning the best that it could be, and it was way too easy for clutter to build up in certain places.  If you're struggling with kitchen organization too, here's the checklist I used to declutter my own cabinets.

Minimalist Pantry Staples

January 24, 2018

I have a post coming next week about how to simplify meal planning and prep, and a large part of that process is to have some pantry staples on hand because it cuts down on the amount of time you need to spend grocery shopping each week.  And although I do mention some ideas for meals, I don't talk about all the pantry items you would need, since it differs so much for each household.  So before that post arrives, I thought I would show you specifically what we keep in our house, which is as minimalist as the rest of my life, but still keeps us well-fed!

Why New Year's Goals Fail and How to Fix It

January 23, 2018

It's about that time that new year's resolutions start to fail - the 3 weeks to one month in mark.  By the end of January, most people forget all about what they decided to accomplish just 4 weeks ago.  You probably already know the tip about how to set your goal in the first place, about making it specific and measurable, but even once you do that, you might still be having trouble.  Here's some common reasons people fail their new year resolutions and how you can fix it:

A Day in the Life of Spending $0

January 22, 2018

3 weeks down on the shopping ban.  Of course, that's the easy part.  There's still a lot of motivation there, and not a lot of opportunity for spending in the month of January.  Still, it's nice to mark it as a success so far.  I know some people were going to attempt their own version of less spending this month and year, so I hope you're all doing well with that too.  If not though, or if you want to start, I thought I'd give you a look at a typical week day for me and show you were some spending traps generally come up and how I successfully avoid them.  Maybe it'll help you avoid the same.

Popular Money Saving Tips That Didn't Work For Me

January 17, 2018

There is tons of information out there about how to save money and generally improve your finances.  Tons.  I'm sure you know that if you've ever started researching.  I believe that you just have to find what works for you, because eventually something will click.  But it might not be one of the 'top tips' that you'll found out there.  There's some very popular financial advice that just didn't work for me at all.

How I Actually Relax

January 16, 2018

This post may contain affiliate links.

Well yesterday I posted about the time wasters I avoid, which included a lot of things that other people would generally considering 'relaxing,' like watching TV.  Just because I avoid those certain time wasters doesn't mean I never relax though!  I don't think you can be productive all the time, that's how you get burnt out.  The brain needs time to rest and reset, and so does the body.  So if I'm not lying on the couch each evening watching 2 hours of TV, how do I actually relax?

Time Wasters I Avoid

January 15, 2018

I made a lot of goals this year.  Some are passive, like not shopping.  But some require my time and energy, like my various health goals that require me to cook and research and exercise.  Part of the reason I like setting these goals and having the list to work off of is that it makes me very aware of how I'm spending my time each day - and how not to waste it.  Since the new year is the time when everyone else makes goals too, I figure this is a good time to share how I avoid wasting my time so I can be more productive.

Reviewing Old Beauty Favorites

January 12, 2018

I change favorite beauty products more often than I originally thought when I started this post.  I sort of assumed that I find what I love and stick with it, but that hasn't been the case, particularly when it comes to my focus here - makeup and skincare.  New products are constantly being released and I always want to try them.  But not only that, my tastes have change dramatically in just a few years.  I decided how important it is for me to use only cruelty free items, and then I also wanted to make sure things are using clean and green ingredients (something that's still in progress for me.)

Monthly Decluttering Project: Kitchen

January 10, 2018

Alright, it's about time I launch into this whole 'house to home' thing I've been talking about.  My word of the year is Healthy, yes, but there are so many components of health.  And one of those components is happiness.  And reducing stress.  For me, those are directly related to my living situation.  I love our house, I do, but I haven't really been thinking of it as a home, you know what I mean?  We moved in 2 years ago this coming May, and I still feel like it's not as homey as it could be yet.  It's a balance, of course, because I don't like clutter or knick knacks all over, but I don't think you need all that crap to make a space feel personal and comforting.  So that's my plan for this year - to concentrate on a different space each month to really get it to where I feel like it's 'home' for us.  Every month on the blog I'll have one post about decluttering a space, and one post about organizing and turning a space into a home.  Sometimes (like this month) they'll be the same space, but sometimes not.  It'll be an adventure.

My first decluttering project for 2018 is the kitchen.  It seemed fitting, with my clean eating and other health related goals, for this to be the month where I really get my kitchen up to snuff and working the way I need it to for me to cook at home more.

Awesome things I've seen on other lists that will never be on my own:

January Health Goal and State of the Blog

January 1, 2018

And just like that, it's 2018.  It's funny how that happens, the simple turnover of a minute bouncing us into an entirely new year.  Now, I thought the new year starting last year on a Sunday was pretty glorious, but it's nothing compared to the 1st being on a Monday.  It's all my favorite productivity timings in one - new year, new month, new week, a Monday.  Even though I'm out of the office today... at least it's still productivity on the home front.  I hope you're off of work today as well.

But I'm still blogging, so I hope you're still reading.  I did take all of last week off, and I really enjoyed the break.  I'm ready to be back at it though because I have lots of goals to share and blogging about them keeps me accountable.  Today is obviously the first of this type of post, but I plan on starting every month like this, with these goal update posts.  On the first week day of each month, whenever that falls - it's Monday, April 2, Wednesday, August 1, you get the idea.  Unless it's a Thursday, because I don't plan on missing anything Three on Thursday posts.  So let's jump in to what's lined up for January.
