All the Firsts

I try to give you some insight into myself every so often, because I think it helps the reader to connect to the writer.  And, let's get real, it's way easier than crafting a blog post about organizing or saving money every single day.  I figure a good way to get to know me this time is to let you know all about some of my firsts:

What was your first word?  'Mine.'  Shortly followed by 'No.'  Only child right here.

Do you still talk to your first love?  Yep, he owns a business downtown not far from my office, we see each other and talk fairly regularly.

What was your first alcoholic drink?  I don't actually remember, but I'm 99% sure it was beer.

What was your first job?  Besides babysitting (which apparently I did but have no memory of), it was Bryn Mawr Country Club, I worked at the pool during high school.  Serving drinks, answering phones, handing out towels... basically a cake walk.  John worked there at the same time, he was a caddy.

First pet?  Crystal.  My parents got her the year before I was born.

What was your first car?  I only drove my mom's car in high school, it was an Infiniti QX4, in an off white color.  I still don't own my own car, and I have no intention of ever getting one.  I just don't need one in the city and they're more trouble then they're worth!

Who was the first person to text you today?  My mom, she had to let me know right away that John's picture was in the paper (fire related.)

Who was the first person you thought of this morning?  Hawkeye.  She was tapping around and woke me up, so I could pick her up and put her on the bed.  And yes, I count Hawkeye as 'person,' deal with it.

Who was your first grade teacher?  Mrs. Duffy.  I'm surprised I remember that.

Where did you go on your first ride on an airplane?  India.  Yep!  My dad wanted his mom to meet me before she died, I think I was 10 months old.  It's also where I learned to walk.

Who was your first best friend and do you still talk?  I assume it was either Jackie or Amelia, because they are the daughters of friends of my parents.  Probably Jackie since she's a year older than Amelia (and one day younger than me.)  In either case, yes, I still talk to both of them!  Jackie's dad is our horse trainer and Amelia's parents are who my parents stay with every time they go to Florida.

Where was your first sleep over?  It was probably at my aunt's or grandmother's house, when my parents were out of town.  I would sleep over there way before I was allowed to have sleepovers at friends' houses.  I also didn't like having sleepovers somewhere else, I liked being home.  So most sleepovers were at my house.

What was the first concert you ever went to?  The Monkees.  My mom loved them, I got dragged along, but it was fun.

What was your first broken bone?  I've never accidentally broken a bone.  When I was 16 I had to have surgery on my foot, and then purposely broke the bone to reset it.  That's been my only one.

What was your first piercing?  Only my ears, my parents pierced them when I was a baby, couple months old.  I don't have any other piercings.

What was the first foreign country you've gone to?  India, see above.

What was the first movie you remember seeing?  As a kid, I remember my mom having lots of Disney movies in the house, and I have a lot of memories of Dumbo.  In theaters, I remember my dad taking me to Lion King.  I doubt that was the first ever, but it's the one I remember the most.  Scratch that, I looked up the dates.  I also very much remember him taking me to The Addams Family, and whether it was the first or second, they were both before Lion King.

When was your first detention?  Junior high.  Junior high was awful for me, my best friend and I had detention pretty much constantly.  We got real good at washing chalkboards.  If you got 4 demerits you got detention and we got demerits for things like asking questions, talking back, too short skirts, wrong kind of shoes, her for not participating in certain gym activities when she had awful asthma, on and on.  It started that they just didn't like us (the school was Opus Dei which is straight up psychotic, and we were not), and towards the end we were purposely assholes as often as possible.  She's still my best friend because nothing bonds you like a common enemy.

Who was your first roommate?  Lindsay, in our sorority house.  We had the best time, we were perfect roommates!

What was the first sport you were involved in?  Dance class, ballet for sure but probably started tap at the time time.  I started ice skating and soccer really early too, but based on photos, dance class had to be first.

What is the first thing you do when you get home?  Kick my shoes off and pay lots of attention to Hawkeye.

When was your first kiss?  Pretty sure it was 7th grade.  I know who it was (same as the 'first love' question), but I'm not sure exactly when it was.

Tell me about your firsts in the comments, or let me know if you make a post of your own.
