Shopping Ban Update and May Goals

Let me just tell you now - April was not a success.  Not for being healthy, not for goals, and not for the shopping ban, which I suppose is to be expected but still frustrating.  Hoping May will be a lot better, though I'm not going to try to plan too much stuff and over-exert myself.

Of course, let's start with the April update.

- I for sure failed at sleeping 8 hours a night, 2 blog posts per week, and decluttering the laundry room, but I'm sure you already know that.  April was just a rough month all around.  But I did manage to post almost every single day on Instagram, so go figure.

- I did get to organize my 101 list and in fact checked off 10 items already, so I was very productive on that front.  I also finished the list my mom left me while I dog sat for them.  And by 'I' I mean John, because they needed their patio roof fixed.

My monthly bills remained the same, you can see those here if you're interestedTotal Bills: $1421.50

Other money I spent:
  • $10 Gloves.  I needed new ones and I like to buy them after the season while they're on sale.
  • $274 End Table.  We spent a lot at Domicile Furniture this month.  But mostly, John paid for it.  He bought the coffee table and 2 chairs, but I paid when I went back for the matching end table.
  • $70 Dog Grooming.  Some people think that's a lot but it's a privately owned grooming studio and there's no cages so it's doggie daycare and grooming in one.  Worth it.  Hawkeye runs in the door, she actually likes going there.
  • $25 Whole Foods.  I do round to even numbers here, but I didn't have to on this one.  My bill actually came to exactly $25.  It was strange.
  • $268 Contacts.  Isn't that ridiculous?  Yes, that's how much a years worth of my contacts cost.  Such a pain in the ass.
  • $165 Lowe's.  We had a bunch of random crap to pick up - batteries, shelves for my bathroom, extra keys made, grass seed, whatever.  John had just paid like $1100 for living room chairs so I figured I could pick up the Lowe's tab!
  • $5 Mascara.  I had to go get my favorite Essence mascara at Ulta.  It's the one thing I do regularly replace, makeup-wise.
Total: $817.  Woof.  Does insurance cover contacts?  I should ask for reimbursement.  Rough month!

I also just placed an order at American Eagle (for stuff I needed, really) but it hasn't posted yet so I'll update that on next month's update.

To be honest, I thought I was going to shop more this month given the circumstances, but I think I already knew that shopping and spending money never makes me feel better.  Plus without the contacts, it's not much more than a normal spending month.  I guess I don't feel too bad about that.

Alright, on to May:

Wear. My. Invisalign.  That's literally my only goal.  Every single day, wear the stupid thing.  At least like, an hour.  I'm still trying to be mindful of my word of the year (healthy), so I'll keep going with exercising and eating right as well as I can, but taking care of my teeth is also a part of being healthy. I have to wear this stupid thing.  Le sigh.

  • Regular blog posts.  It should be easier in May because I have plenty of ideas saved up and I miss updating the blog.
  • Finish A Storm of Swords.  It's the 3rd book in the Song of Ice and Fire series (Game of Thrones.)  I read the first two in April and I'm halfway through the third.  I read so much in April, it's crazy.
  • Clean out the laundry room!  This was on my April goals list and didn't happen but it desperately needs to.  Photos of the disaster coming tomorrow.
  • Finish season 4 of Castle.  Watching series I've always meant to is on my 101 list, and I started with Castle.  I just finished season 3 over the weekend - it's a slower goal for me because I don't watch much TV.  My goal is to watch one episode every day, while I'm on the treadmill.  Because then I have to keep going the full 45 minutes in order to finish it!
  • Complete my blog weekend to do list.  See below.

  • Derby Day!  I love the Derby, I'm excited for Saturday.
  • Two years in our house.  Isn't that crazy?  Time flies.  I plan on taking pictures or a video to compare to the one I did last year and the one when we moved in.  I'll report back.
  • Belmont-Sheffield Music Fest.  It kicks off the street fest season in Chicago.
  • Planning bar golf.  We're playing in Iowa the 2nd weekend in June, so we have to get it all planned and set up before then, and I love planning bar crawls.
  • Blog weekend.  Betsy and I do these usually twice a year, where we spend a whole weekend working on blog things together and we get so much done.  We have one scheduled for this coming weekend.

  • Monthly Decluttering Project: Laundry Room (really this time - tomorrow!)
  • Monthly House to Home Organizing Project: Laundry Room
  • Favorite Green Beauty Brands (and top picks from each)
  • Two Year Home Tour
  • Things I Do Instead of Spending Money
  • Three on Thursdays
  • and hopefully more, if I can get back on schedule
