Three on Thursday - Weekly Favorites

Like my post 2 weeks ago, this one also has a theme - vegan favorites. 

ONE.

Beyond Meat Beyond Burger.  I actually really hate making my own vegan burger patties, it's not easy and they don't hold up well to traditional burger cooking methods.  And a lot of vegan burgers in the frozen section are gross.  But these taste delicious and can be cooked on a grill or grill pan just like a regular burger (and they're in the refrigerated section, not the freezer!)  According to my mom, they taste just like a regular burger.  I've never actually had a regular burger, so I don't know if that's true, but there you go.  I find these at Whole Foods, but in mine they're near produce, like where mushrooms and tofu are.  They're pricey, but worth it.  Especially now that we're entering barbecue and outdoor party season - if you're wondering what you can eat as a vegan at a barbecue, bring your own Beyond Burgers for the chef to throw on the grill for you!

TWO.

Beanfields Nacho Bean Chips It's pretty hard to find chips that have a good cheesy flavor that are still vegan, but these are actually delicious.  They have a good amount of protein and fiber but I'm still not claiming these are healthy, by any means.  It's just that sometimes, you need a good, crunchy, salty snack food, right?  These are perfect for those moments.  I haven't tried all their flavors, but all the ones I've gotten my hands on have been really good.  Which I'm happy about because I have a salt tooth instead of a sweet tooth, for sure.

THREE.

Peanut Butter Brownies I know you're thinking that black beans cannot be an ingredient for brownies, but just give this recipe from Lex a try, seriously.  It doesn't taste like beans, I promise you.  They're actually delicious and taste just like a brownie should, it even has the right texture.  Even John likes these and he's as far from vegan as you can possibly get.  Strictly a meat and potatoes kind of guy.  Since he has a weakness for chocolate peanut butter things, I figured he'd at least try one and he ended up eating almost the whole pan of them.  I did tell him the ingredients but he didn't mind that it was beans at all, he loved them.  So thumbs up from both of us.
