My 5 Minute Makeup Routine

I like getting up early-ish in the mornings.  I find I'm able to get a lot done if I wake up when John does, since he leaves for work over an hour before I need to.  But a full face of makeup is not one of those things I want to spend my productive morning hour on (and I'd also need to spend more time taking it off at the end of the day, which I never feel like doing.)  I'm just not up for the whole entire makeup routine - I save that for evenings out when I feel like playing around.  In the mornings before work, I'd rather just get it done in 5 minutes and get out the door.  I know a lot of people feel the same way, so I thought I would share my routine and products.  And I have timed it!  This does take me just a few minutes:

SPF

I like a moisturizing SPF, since my skin leans towards the dry side.  And SPF is always necessary, not matter what time of year or what the weather is.  I don't use any other product on top of this, like foundation or tinted moisturizer, so I don't need to give it time to set.  I just go right on with the rest of my routine.

Concealer

I like to use concealer for undereye circles.  Mine aren't bad, actually, but they can look worse than they are when my cheeks flush too red because of the rosacea.  The color contrast makes the circles look darker.  I also bring a little of the concealer onto my eyelids, to give the shadow a neutral base and something to stick to, negating the need for an eye primer.  I currently like this one from First Aid Beauty because it's really lightweight and easy (read: fast) to blend with just my fingers.

Eyeshadow

I find cream shadow sticks to be much easier to work with when you're trying to get things done quickly.  There's no brushes involved, first of all.  But it's also easy to find just one shade that compliments your eyes and swipe that over the entire lid.  These Laura Mercier ones work well for me, I like the shimmery shades.  I swipe it a couple times over my lid and then use a finger to pat it down and a little bit upwards towards my brows.

Eyebrows and Eyeliner

I only use brow pomade to fill in my brows, because it's the easiest for me to work with and looks the most natural, which means it takes almost no time to do.  The bonus is that it's a double use product - the angled brush it comes with makes it very easy to use the product as a natural looking eyeliner, concentrated at the base of the lashes to make them appear more full.  I love the Plume product for this, but the Anastasia Dip Brow works just as well.

Mascara

Even if I skip all the other things, I'm not skipping SPF or mascara.  My lashes are really light and short, so I absolutely look like a different, more awake person with mascara on and I can't stand how my lashes look without it.  My favorite is still the Essence Lash Princess, the black tube with the green writing.  Two quick coats and I'm ready to go.

Lips

I prefer gloss on a daily basis.  I like being able to reapply without a mirror, and I like not having to worry that the color has smeared around.  If I'm going to do a bright color for a special occasion, I like to get a liquid lipstick that dries down and stays put.  But those are too drying for me for every day wear.  Right now, I'm using one of these Anastasia glosses.  They're very hydrating, the color looks great, and they stay for a pretty long time for a gloss.  If I'm just trying to protect my lips, I keep this First Aid Beauty lip balm in my purse.
