You may have heard about CBD in the news. It might be you’d seen a story about how it’s affected someone, or you’ve read about it, but you don’t really understand what it is or how it can help people. So, of course, you’d want to find out more about what it is and how it can affect users.

Here are some details on what CBD is and its origins. There’s also some information on how you can use it as an alternative medicine, and what conditions you can use it for.

What does CBD stand for?

CBD is short for cannabidiol. This all-natural compound is derived from plants such as hemp, and it has been shown in studies to possess properties such as pain relief, anti-seizure, anti-anxiety, and anti-inflammatory.

It’s non-psychoactive, meaning users do not get a ‘high.’ This is unlike the most well-knowncannabinoid, which is called tetrahydrocannabinol (THC).

How do I take CBD?

Manufacturers of CBD products may get hemp from brands such as Cope CBD. There are many different ways in which the tincture of CBD oil can be administered, which may include adding it to either water or smoothies. It can also come in the form of a spray, capsules or creams, among others. However, make sure that you consult your doctor first before trying out any new remedy or medication.

What can CBD help users with?

There are many common ailments and complex chronic diseases that CBD can be used to treat. There’s a lot of ongoing research about the effectiveness of using CBD because of its potential to treat a wide range of health-related issues.

One of those is by reducing inflammation. That’s because CBD has anti-inflammatory elements that work with the endocannabinoid system, which then creates a positive response. It reduces the level of severity of the nerve inflammation.

This compound can also reduce chronic pain in people. It alters how this endocannabinoid system works by interacting with the body’s neurotransmitters, which then reduces inflammation. This is why CBD can be seen as an effective remedy for conditions such as multiple sclerosis and arthritis.

It may be used to reduce epileptic seizures in people, and also has therapeutic effects. It is in a drug called Epidiolex, which is made with CBD compound to treat two different types of epilepsy: Dravet Syndrome and Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome. The drug slows down excitatory nerve activity, which is what leads to epileptic seizures.

CBD oil can be a way to ease anxiety by promoting relaxation. A 2011 study showed that, when people with generalized social anxiety disorder (SAD) were given CBD oil - rather than a placebo - before a public speaking test, they had significantly less anxiety, discomfort, and difficulty during that test.

If you are thinking of taking CBD oil, for instance, then you should speak to your GP before you do so. This is because it could interact with any other drugs that you may already be taking.
