1. Fix Things Straight Away

Sometimes, the best thing you can do when you want to be frugal, is also learn patience. For instance, you can’t buy a new TV immediately just because you want to. However, if something crucial in your life is starting to break, like a boiler, your roof, or even your car, fixing it fast will save you a lot of money. Although you may need to take out a personal loan to get cash now, the cost of paying back what you owe will be a lot smaller if you start fast. 

On the other hand, if you bury your head in the sand and ignore the problem, then you could end up paying for repairs as well as flood damage and other serious problems. 

2. Save a Pound a Week 

Struggle with saving any kind of money? Start small. Some people get down in the dumps telling themselves that they’ll just never be able to save. However, if you put just one pound away each week, you end up with an extra fifty pounds in your bank at the end of the year. You can also try increasing the amount that you save every week too. For instance, start with a pound, then move up to two, three, and four, until you’re eventually putting £52 at the end of the year. If you follow this routine, then you’ll have £1,378 by the time the year is over. 

The smallest changes in your saving strategy can really add up over time. What’s more, they improve your confidence with saving too. 

3. Make Shopping Lists

When you’ve got a hectic schedule to stick to, sitting down to write a shopping list before you go to the supermarket can seem like a waste of time. However, it actually helps you to save money. Not only will you make sure that you stick to buying only what you need at the supermarket, but you’ll also be able to check that you’re not buying things that you already have. We’ve all had those moments when we weren’t sure whether we still had peas in the cupboard or not. 

If you’re worried about sticking to your shopping list once you have it, leave your cards at home and only take enough cash for what you need. That way, you’ll be forced to buy only what you can afford. 

4. Walk More 

Want to save money and get fit at the same time? Rather than driving to everything you want to do, set aside some extra time so you can walk to your destination. If you’re used to driving places, then you might need to take some time to change up your routine. For instance, start by just walking to the corner shop instead of driving there. If you’re going to visit a friend who only lives 20 minutes away, walk instead of driving. 

If walking doesn’t appeal to you, you can accomplish the same goals by cycling places too. The idea is that you use less fuel and keep your car in good condition by using it less. You’ll spend less, and get healthier too! 

5. Pick a Goal, Any Goal

Finally, when saving money is tough, sometimes the thing that you need most is motivation. Rather than just telling yourself that you have to save because it’s the right thing to do, give yourself a goal that you want to really accomplish. The goal can be short-term, long-term, or a combination of both. The idea is that you’ll be able to visualize what every pound is taking you closer towards. 

If you’re losing motivation at any point, try sticking a picture on your fridge of the goal that you’re trying to achieve. This will remind you exactly what you’re struggling to do.
